Heads up, Hamster/Monkeypaw PSN PS1 releases disappearing!

Post by LEGENOARYNINLIA »

Apparently Hamster/Monkeypaw has been removing some PS1 (maybe other stuff too, not sure) titles from the Japanese, US, and European PSN stores. I don't have the resources to make a comprehensive list of what's gone, but I can tell you that you can not redownload the stuff you have already bought. At least not from the Japanese store. So if you have bought any Hamster/Monkeypaw releases, better not delete them!

FUCK YOU HAMSTER.

EDIT: Here are some examples of games that are missing:

Magical Drop
Magical Drop F
Magical Drop III: Yokubari Tokudaigou!
Side Pocket 3
Suiko Enbu

(yes, they are all Data East games)

Maybe someone who is fluent in Japanese can ask what's gone and why?

EDIT: I've contacted Monkeypaw Games and asked them to explain the situation. But it would still be nice to hear it from Hamster as well.

The games I've lost do not appear on this list either. So far it is only Data East titles that I can confirm to be missing.

If something you bought disappeared entirely, I would contact Sony.

I never understood publishers that removed digital games without announcing their intentions beforehand. Giving advance warning is practically a golden opportunity to make additional revenue in the last few days/weeks off potential buyers sitting on the sideline.

Hamster's license to use Data East's catalog must have expired, and they weren't interested in renewing it. Something's very wrong if you can't re-download the games from your list, though. I can still download the Irem games I bought even though they're no longer for sale.

Monkeypaw Games replied.
Hi ____,
Some games are removed from the Store when the licenses expire. Sometime license holders have other offers or there are 3rd parties involved that request their portion of the license halt sales. This happens from time-to-time. We made a press release announcement at the time of this occurrence and gave users a month to purchase and download these games for the last time. It is unfortunate but we will be releasing more games in the coming months. Please stand by.

My Google-Fu sucks because I can't find such a press release anywhere. And their response did not answer all of my questions anyway. The games I am missing were bought from the Japanese store, so I have no way of knowing why I can't redownload them. Fuck.

Welcome to the digital future. Hope everyone enjoys "renting" their games. Straight up bullshit.
