TV Series worth watching
TV Series worth watching
edit: looks like it's being covered in this thread: http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6127
I've been getting into watching TV series recently (DVD boxsets or TV Rips) and have got completely addicted to:
Veronica Mars - Totally excellent show. I never fancied a blonde before, but Kristen Bell is totally hot and plays her role real well.
The OC (First season was excellent, season two was great, season three isn't as good as the first two).
Lost (Started off excellent, still good but not sure where it's going)
Prison Break - You MUST watch this show. Best thing since 24.
24 - goes without saying that this is an excellent show, I have been so tired for work after having to keep watching episode after episode. I watched all of the first series in 2 days.
Dead Like Me - It's a shame that this show was cancelled. It was a real excellent show and I loved it. The characters are some of the best ever.
Weeds - cracking TV series. Seems to be on a break for a while, not sure if its coming back. I'm not a fan of shows that involve drugs, but this was way, way better than I expected.
Malcolm in the Middle - great light hearted fun. started from series 1 and worked up through series 7. more entertaining than actually having any point so don;t expect anything too in depth.
Can anyone recommend anything else? I've heard good things about Alias? Is it that good? Also the CSI series, what are they like?
Hmmmm... now I know why I don't have time to play shmups that much - I am watching too much TV.

My favorite RECENT series:
The Office (original)
Curb your enthusiasm
Six Feet Under
Sopranos
The following are classics imo:
Twin Peaks
Simpsons
Seinfeld
You ask about CSI. I think the original CSI is quite fun overall. Some episodes are really amazing; plenty others are average. The show loves to mix images of death and sex-- perhaps a bit more so than is perfectly healthy. Still, recommended. I know less about CSI spin-offs.

Same here. I honesty think it is one of the finest Sci-fi shows ever created. Up there with Doctor Who. I loved the movie Serenity too.TalkingOctopus wrote:I really liked firefly. It was a good scifi show.

sienfeld is the ultimate for me but maybe just because i initially found the 1-3 box set for £25 and i made it last me a long time as i had no money. i'm hooked regardless and i've nearly finished series 4. oh and series 5 and 6 are coming out together next month.... i'm going to have no money.
i alos recently picked up series one of the x-files as i haven't watched any for ages and i'm hooked. i don't remember some episodes at all and others are instantly familiar. how can you forget stretch, the fantastic eugene tombs episode.. liver eating freaky boy!

Re: TV Series worth watching
can't speak on the CSIs; i only occasionally watch them. as for alias, the first 4 seasons were overall excellent, and highly recommended. been taping season 5 and watching them after the fact (started off the season behind, been playing catch up ever since). so far it's been okay. if you're gonna watch alias, though, go back and watch it from the beginning; there's just plain too much stuff going on and characters to know to do otherwise.JigsawMan wrote:edit: looks like it's being covered in this thread: http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6127

as far as television goes, in january the "new season" (actually, the 2nd half of season 2) of what i consider the greatest show on TV starts up again.
i.e., BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.
go procure and watch season 1 (and preferably the mini-series), then wait for scifi to start re-running the first half of season 2.
I'm not much for TV, but I must recommend Freaks and Geeks. It only ran for one season, and that was about five years ago. It was never received well by the public, but it was critically acclaimed. Freaks and Geeks is a comedy/drama about high school life in the early 80's. I was a big fan of it when it came out, as I was in high school at the time, and I picked up the DVD set recently. I think it's held up wonderfully so far.

Meet Mark and Jeremy. Mark's the sensible one, a professional brogue-wearer with a slightly disconcerting interest in World War Two. Jeremy is the loose cannon, a lazy waster with dodgy friends who dreams of becoming a musician but can never get his act together (or up in the morning).

I am another person who isn't really into much television (prime time especially) but I will throw another vote on for the drama House. Granted I have only seen maybe half a dozen epsiodes but seeing as how it has managed to hold my attention...I guess that says something.
I would also mention Arrested Development but just thinking about how poorly FOX handled such a funny show would just piss me off.
I also really like Iron Chef America for some strange, unknown reason.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

Arrested Development is ace too. 24 started of nice but now I see that Bauer kid still running around (she an antiterrorist agent now?). Script rape to get her tits on the screen, go to school honey ! Such a shame.
Lost started of brilliantly but I think the writers are somehow losing it from the moneymen (we don't wan't to sell 3 DVD's but 30 you silly, start writing, we can become rich over this!), with a slightly botched up dynamic/script as a result.
