Music worth listening to

Post by JigsawMan »

Just discovered:

Bullent for my Valentine
Disturbed
Him

Three great bands worth listening too. Anyone gone any more suggestions similar to those? Not sure how I would describe them, kinda hard rock and not exactly heavy metal. Nothing will ever beat the fond childhood memories of Guns n Roses, Ozzy, Metallica and White Zombie. But those bands offer some good stuff for 2005.

Sonata Arctica.

Oh yeah, there are plenty of good OCremixes to go by.
The radio said, "No, John. You are the demons."
And then, John was a zombie.

check out the flaming lips. and the fall. two of the best bands ever but be carefull as some of the stuff can get a little noisy...

for good starts i recommend yoshimi battles the pink robot by the lips as a starting point and then work backwards. as for the fall get the peel box set (24 sessions!) and 50000 fall fans can't be wrong a kind of double cd compilation and you'll know if they are for you. i fell instantly in love with the fall but most look at me strange and compare the legandary mark e smith to a drunken tramp

Heh, you say that as if it were a bad thing  .

Again, that's not exactly a bad thing, is it?

Yep, The Fall are an all-time favorite of mine, and have influenced so many good bands over the years, it's impossible to list 'em all. As far as albums by them, I highly recommend Our Nation's Saving Grace, Bend Sinister, and the A-sides singles compilation. All good stuff.

Still can't recommend The Immortal Lee County Killers enough. Their newest album, These Bones Will Rise To Love You Again, has a great cover of a Pussy Galore song ("Revolution Summer"). The only other band I'm listening to as much as ILCK lately are The Spits, whom Pacrappa turned me onto. They're fantastic.

edit: just used that and discovered Static-x and Mudvayne. Both pretty good.

Anyone into heavy music owes it to themselves to get the new Buzzoven reissue "Welcome to Violence". It has their first album and two EPs on it.... sick, heavy shit.

If you like your alt rock nice and spacey, you can't go wrong with Failure. Fantastic Planet is such a masterpiece album. It lags a little in the middle, but tracks 13-17 are incredible gems, one after another.

Fireside

Check out their album Do Not Tailgate.

Very heavy, with great uplifting chouses and sometimes bizarre song structures. The guitars sound great, much like Nirvana's In Utero (IMO)

(Dammit, I've tried to get everyone I know into this band!)

You, sir, rock. Another Fireside fan here. I have the above mentioned Do Not Tailgate, the Hello Kids comp, Uomini D'Onore and Get Shot.

Much as I love Tailgate, I'd say their real classic is Uomini, there are two songs on there - 'Monsoon' and 'Ambulance' that typify everything Fireside are about, and demonstrate exactly why very few other bands of this ilk have ever been able to touch them. I like the harder-edged, crunchier production on this LP as well. Not too sure about Get Shot though - seems a bit of a shift in direction and not nearly as intense as their earlier stuff, though I've yet to really listen to it properly.

As a Fireside fan, I'd strongly suggest if you haven't heard them already you go check out a band called Criteria. They have two LP's out - 'En Guard' and 'When We Break', and while I'd suggest that En Guard is the stronger of the two they're both fantastic LP's. Nothing ground-breaking, just really well written alt-rock, slightly more structured and melodic than Fireside.
