What is the 5V out on console AV output ports for?

I know it is included on several systems AV out port so I was just wondering what the expected or common use for it was.

switching voltage for scart inputs - otherwise the TV doesn't know wether to use composite video or RGB.

Beyond it's original purpose, it's also useful for powering an LM1881, EL4583, etc.

It's for powering the external RF modulator.

Haha, I like all the differing thoughts (all totally valid). I'll chime in: it's just a good idea to have power available there for expandability. When console manufacturers put out their first spin of systems, they don't really know where they will go with all the peripherals, so they leave flexibility there for whatever may come.
