I couldn't agree more... Lots of shmups have blue skies!Games need BLUE SKIES! Games need BRIGHT YELLOW SUNS! Games need RED AND BLUE THINGS in them! We want to play in a HAPPY PRETEND LAND, not a shit version of an American slum full of mixed-race gangsters wearing licensed sportswear!
We want to COLLECT BANANAS FROM MAGIC CASTLES not earn respect from fictional gang leaders! We want to stun enemies with BOUNCE ATTACKS, not shoot them in unrealistic and shoddy drive-bys!
We want to restore our health by COLLECTING ROAST CHICKEN, not by syringing drugs into the only vein we can still find! Games have gone SHIT and DARK and RUBBISH and WE WANT THEM BACK!
We want music that goes PLINKY-PLINK AND DOOPY-DOO not "motherfucking west coast mother fucker, y'all"! We want to fight WEIRD MONSTERS not drug-dealing criminals!

Just last night I saw an ad for Shadow the Hedgehog game.. He walking away with a gun, and the city behind him blows up. Riding a motorcycle, busting some caps into some weird lifeforms. I was expecting to talk all ghetto and say "mo-fo" and the "n" word.
I don't like the idea of my children and my nephew playing that kind of gritty, slum simulations. Dammit Sega. You of all companies.
RISTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRR!!!

Strange no-one mentions the ELO connection:
Couldn't agree more on the campaign's goals!
Again: "PLINKY-PLINK AND DOOPY-DOO" would have made an even better OST.
Time for action indeed!Warning! Todays forcast calls for blue skys
Sun is shining in the sky there aint a cloud in sight it's stopped raining,
Everybody's in the play
And don't you know it's a beautiful new day, Hey, Hey
Running down the avenue, see how the sun shines brightly,
In the city, on the streets where once was pity,
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today, Hey, Hey
[Chorus:]
Mr.Blue Sky, please tell us why, you had to hide away for so long(So Long),
Where did we go wrong
Couldn't agree more on the campaign's goals!

Why would you like to have THAT when you could also choose to have "PLINKY-PLINK AND DOOPY-DOO" sounds?D wrote:Agreed on all counts except.
I would still like to have the motherfucker bit though.

Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast has some hip hop tracks. In the Knuckles stage. Not hardcore, but good enough for a game soundtrack
Again: "PLINKY-PLINK AND DOOPY-DOO" would have made an even better OST.

Barroom hero!

I'm surprised at how many people take the title of the campaign so seriously and write it off as ridiculous. All it suggests is that there be less of the gritty realism and dreary urban settings that's become the norm lately, and more.. sunny environments that bring a sense of joy and wonder.
It's not just "SPLATTAR BLUE PIXELZ ALL OVAR LOLZ!!1"
I, for one, fully support this campaign.

I think it's supposed to be a joke, but it makes a good point. Some of the best games made absolutely no sense and took place in strange, happy fantasy lands.Moogs wrote:I'm surprised at how many people take the title of the campaign so seriously and write it off as ridiculous. I wholeheartedly agree with this campaign. Though, for the sake of fairness, it might be added that I did enjoy silent hill 1-3; but there the grittiness served a purpose. Old splatterhouse coinop (and that PCB is my belowed treasure) had a nice way of showing horror with colourful graphics. Saint dragon has dark, steely graphics, but they are beautiful and full of atmosphere.
Most of these urban/gritty games are just over-calculated ultra-commercial s**t.
Actually it is not the gritty and dark that annoys me, it is the false, sell-out, pretend-to-be-cool gritty&dark.
Partly it is also just me getting older..

A really good example of something trying to be dark and edgy with a terrible result is prince of persia: warrior within. Sands of time was so much better.Moogs wrote:Oh, believe me, I love dark and disturbing games as well. Silent Hill is one of my favourite series of all time, and I got a kick out of games like Doom 3 and the Fatal Frame games, but there's just far too much emphasis on trying to be dark and edgy.
It's simple... they're asking for creativity and fantasy, not reality. And reality, quite honestly is shit, and doesn't interest me in the least :P I'm still like a kid, the games the captured my imagination when I was younger still do, and they don't really make too many of those any more. Saw that campaign a few days ago, I thought it was brilliant :P
p.s. for example, I LOVED the original Dooms... they were dark and yet STILL SOMEWHAT COLORFUL AND ANIMATED. Doom 3? It's so dark you can't even see a thing... to me the whole thing seems uninspired... though I guess there are plenty of people who like it "real" like that... good for them :P

On a related note, this comic helps explain the campaign:

Let's get this out of the way up front: Shadow the Hedgehog is a game set in Sega's beloved Sonic universe, and yes, you can use all kinds of guns to shoot aliens, robots, and even humans. It sounds blasphemous, but it really isn't so shocking once you see it in action. In fact, the shooting mechanics are completely useless, so you're better off avoiding guns altogether. Actually, unless you're a very forgiving Sonic fan, you're better off avoiding this entire game.
I wouldn't recommend quoting some of those Shadow the Hedgehog reviews. I heard some of them aren't accurate. I'm not expecting the best Sonic game ever, but IGN's review was just lame. 4.9 was way harsh, but the stuff actually said in the review seemed even harsher. From what I heard, most of the guns actually have automatic aim.TalkingOctopus wrote:On a related note, this comic helps explain the campaign:
