Galshell 2

Post by DjMcDougal »

So recently from searching around the internet for horror shmups to play I came across Galshell 2. Geez , I thought x-Multiply was bad.. I cant even describe what I'm seeing in this game. Not many videos / information posted, but ive heard many fans of the first Galshell where not impressed by it. It's a pretty solid shooter imo. I wish I had more information about this game because im stuck at the stage 3 boss and Id like to know more about the story and if someones ripped the ost.

Just googled the game (it's freeware) and WOW. This thing is nuts lol. Is there only a normal shot weapon (can't find bomb button)?

There is only shot 1 and 2nd button to hold the 2 other cannons in place. No bombs as far as I know, the closer you are to the target you get a faster rate of fire. Yeah the game is insane and quite disturbing lol.

I tried it and I like it so far. Thanks for sharing this find. The graphics are gorgeous for a doujin. Everything is animated and the flow of the game is very fast and frenetic. The art reminds me of Suehiro Maruo.

To score you have to collect the meat from the destroyed enemies and try to keep the chain going.

I don't know what the brains are for, though, some kind of upgrade?

Brains grow your item chain. Every brain you collect fills the meter on the right by one unit. Once the meter is full, gold skulls start dropping instead of brains. Gold skulls will increase in size as you collect them. I'm not exactly sure how this fits into scoring. Getting hit will significantly downgrade your chain, and I can't remember if letting a brain or skull fall off the screen also does the same.

Galshell 2 is unfinished, by the way. There are actually two completely different builds of the game:

Galshell 2 ~ Bullet Rain - The last version of this game is 0.26, I believe. This iteration of the game was completely scrapped and is unavailable from the developer's website. It plays much more like your standard vertical STG, but also has the system of collecting items in exchange for power and temporary invincibility.

Galshell 2 - This is what you guys are playing right now. The latest version is C79.1. It's a trial, but it's quite long. The game is unfinished so it's still rough around the edges and there may be additions and adjustments in the future. The developer put it on hiatus to work on Yakouga 5, and now Yakouga 6, so I'm not sure when or if he'll get around to completing it.

There is no published story (yet?), but it's probably not much different from the story in the first game, Galshell ~ Blood Red Skies: A "Hole" to another dimension opened up in the sky and bad monsters came out. As part of the Earth Defense Force, you have to go in and stop them.

Galshell ~ Blood Red Skies can be downloaded here. HELLBOUND is another game made free by the same developer, which can be downloaded here. Obligatory 18+ warning. These games are a little old, but they're still fun. If you use a keyboard to play HELLBOUND on Vista and higher, it might randomly crash on you while playing.

Not sure I'm following where to download those based on the links. Seems like everything I click isn't the actual download. Any help is appreciated!
