This is pissing me off, since this particular unit has seen almost no use, since I got it about a year and a half ago. I got it off Ebay from some seller in Japan who had replaced the laser, and modded the system.
Well, my games work fine, except Spriggan won't get past the first stage, and loads VERY slowly in general. I burnt some CD-R's of Spriggan, and they wouldn't even get past the title screen, so I couldn't test that out. The game plays flawlessly on Magic Engine. Also, other CD-Rs I played on it, worked fine(such as Nexr).
So, anyway....what to do if this is the case? Where can I get a replacement laser? Who can fix it? Also, is there anything else that could be the problem? It doesn't seem to be the disc. But the system doesn't have problems with other games(yet). But I don't have many games, and my PS3's drive died recently, and it had the same issue. Most games worked, but then some wouldn't load. Usually an early sign.
Anyway, help?

Have you tried cleaning the lens first?

What's the best way to do that?
EDIT: Just simulated a blow job on the laser, and thing are working again. I don't want to jump the gun, but that may be the issue.
Is use of a Q-Tip with alcohol the way to clean the laser? I usually use 50 percent isopro. alcohol, with 50 percent water to clean more delicate plastics and whatnot. But I'll be honest, I tend to avoid stuff like that with lenses, due to fear of damage.

I just lightly scrub it with a swap dipped in rubbing alcohol, then lightly dry it off with the other end.evil_ash_xero wrote:What's the best way to do that?

OK, I'll try that.
EDIT: Yup, that did the trick. Weird, as how it didn't look dirty whatsoever, and even has a dust cover.

Umm, I'm a bit curious as to how that's supposed to help. Hopefully the laser enjoyed it.evil_ash_xero wrote:EDIT: Just simulated a blow job on the laser

Well, vapor from your breath is generally considered pure water and can be a first step towards cleaning an optical surface.
That, and even isopropyl alcohol, don't replace having a dedicated lens cleaner.
If you need one, there are multiple things you can try out. I think that the Lens Pen should work well here (it's made for camera lenses). I would be careful, though, as the laser lens in some units might be plastic (if I remember right).
