Hey Fudoh, I was wondering, I found that there is a 37" 4:3 Plasma from Hitachi the CMP307XE:

How would you say Dreamcast and Playstation 1 games would look on it compared to how they look on the Pioneer PDP-V402EA?

The native resolution is 1024x768.

Once you accept processing (like on a XGA Hitachi), you can just get any LCD or plasma. The Hitachi is nice, but it can't display scanlined images.

He had a question also:

both look good, but it's a totally different look. XRGB obviously looks quite like a CRT, while the plasma look is very unique on it's own.

Fudoh, would an XRGB mini improve a gamecube output on a 50 inch plasma? Am I right in saying that there wouldn't be any improvement as the gamecube outputs 480p with no scanlines anyway?
(To me, the 'cube doesn't look good on a flatscreen normally)

So what does the processor do to the image that makes it Look better than just plugging the gamecube directly into the TV via component?

I don't know exactly but the signal is upscaled (for me in 720p)
Render is cleaner, sharper than plug directly the Gamecube to the Plasma

Ahh - good to know. The the Wii must look pretty good through the mini as well, although I've heard that it's component output isn't as good as the gamecubes.

I'm using RGB SCART from a Wii into a 50" Panasonic G10 and it gives a fantastic picture. Even running emulators I'm quite happy with the sharp big pixelled unfiltered image (over a filtered one).

Not using a XRGB mini, but directly to the panasonic?

(BTW I deleted my post as I realised I'm posting in the wrong section :/)

I noticed :)

Yes, direct SCART. The set does a wonderful job upscaling itself. I set the emulators to output a pixel sharp image and I'm more than happy with it. The black borders left and right aren't an issue.

Actual Wii stuff is treated very nicely too.

I'd probably be thinking otherwise if it was an LCD however.

Awesome thread.

I have a question: Is it possible to use the BVM series without the controller module? There seems to be no controls on the monitor itself.

Ok thanks. That is sort of annoying as several of those monitors are sold without it :p

Edit: Ok I found the part number BKM-10R and it seems they are obtainable in the 50$ range which is not too bad after all.

I've seen certain BVM 20F1's with controls built in just like the PVM L2's. They dont show up too often though.

that's not built in. That's a standard 10R unit with a special holding bracket for rack mounting.

I just bought a BVM-14E1U with 10R controller setup. But it does not include the DB9 cable.

I guess its just a standard DB9, they sell them for cheap ready made at a local store. No cross-over or funny stuff in it right?

Who was your proxy? What was your Shipping method? SAL?

Also would you happen to know the approximate weight of a X68000 monitor? Above or below 30kg, and by how much?
I got two FM-Town monitors from Japan and they are ok but you need to be aware that the electron gun controller is very easy to disconnect on some of these and I had to open it and reconnect the part after shipping.

I wrote details for this here :

Well I just bought a X68000 monitor from Japan which should be with me in a month or two. If it refuses to fire up I'll check out your method, thanks.

I have no idea what a x68k monitor will do though. My experience was limited to one FM-towns monitor. Hope you get it safely.

What TV did you get from Germany? Based on your forum post about 240p and "strong scanlines" it seems like you wanted to pick what SCART Hunter considers to be one of the best if not the best crt TV.

re: the FM Towns monitor, I think the shipping method was SAL. The tube was somehow pushed into the casing a ways - I didn't look inside to try and correct it; the thing was not in great shape anymore. X68K monitor got shipped whatever method you got shipping from the USS Kitty Hawk.
