Speaking of overbuilt muscle characters, how in the hell do those punks in Hokuto no Ken maintain such muscle mass in an apocalypse setting?

finally watched that Garden Of Words - ok I didn't really care much at all for the story, but the fact that pretty much EVERY frame was a wallpaper in the making
made it extremely pleasurable to watch nonetheless.

continuing my ZZ rewatch - I still like it very much.

watched first episode of second season of Valvrave - was actually very pleasantly surprised.

And while it is obviously DESIGNED for people like me to like it, I loved Gundam Build Fighters Episode 7.

In the apocalypse, dead vegetation, detritus, radiation, corpses, etc. all emit high amounts of protein that is absorbed by the skin.

Yeah, this is pretty much my biggest issue with the series so far. Too much damn fanservice. If I wanted to see Ryuko damn near naked [or naked], I'd browse pixiv or something.

haha yeah - but in TTGL you had Yoko and the occasional FLCL style wackiness, but it was never enough to distract from the central story, well it didn't distract me anyway.

watched the first OVA of Armour Hunter Mellowlink - loved it, I think I'm in general going to like all the surrounding stuff more than the actual VOTOMS TV series, I did like the TV series, but it has some pacing issues and the last third was pretty annoying I thought. On the other hand, I loved The Roots Of Ambitions, The Last Red Shoulder and now this.

Decided to rewatch the original Ghost in the Shell movie from '95.

It's still the coolest thing. Stylish, well paced, fluid animation. Brilliant soundtrack. And hell, good dub work. A real masterpiece.

After this, I'm going to rewatch Akira [which I told myself I'd do months ago, but haven't really felt like it].


Oh, and that new GITS OVA seems kind of interesting, saw the first episode earlier. The obvious complaints aside [style, animation], it's not bad. A week and a few days till the next ep.

I’ve always dug the GitS movie, twas one of my gateways to the world of anime alongside the early Ghibli movies and Akira.

Watching it today it seems to fall victim to the pattern of long periods of silence and slow burning slightly conceited self-wankery typical of a Mamoru Oshii film. Though coupled with short spurts of hard action and a Kenji Kawai composed score never fails to provide a good time. Certainly still one of my favorites to go back to every now and then.

I’ve been thinking of giving the new GitS a look in. S.A.C was one of the few recent anime I found after taking many a year break from the medium not to be instantly detestable (to my tastes at least).
How does the new show fair?

Well, GiTS:Arise takes place two years prior to the events that take place in the 1st GiTS film -- so it's regarded as a prequel to the entire GiTS timeline/universe. I viewed it on my PSP just for kicks & it was stunning with the 720 x 480 overall presentation. Noticed that it's a MNV file format if d/l'ed to a Memory Stick Pro Duo setup accompanied with the required DRM file to view it properly as usual (if bought from the U.S. region PSN site).

There are a lot of twists & spins in just the 1st episode of GiTS:Arise alone -- well worth viewing again a second time if you don't catch/understand some important events the first time around. The action scenes/gun battles are quite solid.

Except it was clearly plot significant so people were probably fine with that.

what I really like about the art in Cobra is that while sometimes it may be slightly undetailed, it is always in a 'stylish' way, and also it pretty much NEVER takes shortcuts/the easy way camera angle wise, what I mean is there are lots of 'orbit' view type animations, instead of the easier persistent angles.

Obtained the Discotek DVD releases of Cutey Honey and GTO recently (as well as the not-anime but ever so awesome Criterion Zatoichi Blu-ray set ). Remarkably I’ve had no prior viewing experience with anything Cutey Honey related despite being a Gou Nagai enthusiast. Have yet to start watching but with a Transforming Cyborg Catholic teenage schoolgirl as the shows protagonist I fail see how it could be anything but the greatest thing in existence.

Just rewatched the Dublin arc of ZZ seriously it's a shame so few will watch it because there is so much unnecessary wackiness in ZZ. I think the Dublin Colony Drop scenes is one of the most 'Tomino' of Tomino scenes I've seen, it even has that dread hopeless feeling which Ideon invoked ( ) ,
In fact there's one frame which is almos exactly the same as a close up of someone's face in Ideon. Anyway I really like the Dublin episodes, and I'm not just saying that because I live here .

Yep, it's amazing! The original manga is even better, but you miss out on all that groovy music! Discotek did a wonderful job on the transfer, as usual. Still need to pick up GTO myself, as well as the Zatoichi set! Such a good deal for so many films.

What’s the consensus on InuYasha anime?
I’m quite familiar with several of the Rumiko Takahashi epics in Urusei Yatsura and Ranma ½, and though I am yet to delve fully into it myself I routinely hear excellent things about Maison Ikkoku as well. Time is forever fleeting these days so I don’t want to waste it on something that could potentially take forever to get into.

My One Piss worshipping friends made me watch Shingeki no Kyojin. I liked it. The moral shit needs to go, but the concepts and CGI are pretty nice.

Also, thanks to calculus, I now have fucking K-ON! on my PC. It's actually more bearable than H.Sketch and the likes.

My One Piss worshipping friends made me watch Shingeki no Kyojin. I liked it. The moral shit needs to go, but the concepts and CGI are pretty nice.

Gave up on ep11 myself, the pacing was pretty bad(way too long dialogues IMO) and it started stinking of powerlevel shonen. Plus it's pretty much certain that as an adaptation the ending will either suck or be open with no S2 happening. Interesting concept though.

I watched the new Madoka movie 2 days ago and I'm still pretty confused on what to think about it. I'm not sure if I even wanted a continuation. The plot during the second half was really confusing and kind of stupid in a way. I've had some stuff explained to me to make it better but it still feels kind of shallow in comparison to the last two movies.
