Anyone have one of these or any experience making them? I'm looking to build one to accommodate my XM29, PVM2030, game consoles, turntable, stereo equipment etc...
Just trying to wrap my head around the weight distribution.

lol. that's an idea i had a while back. didn't know there was a name for it. never got around to building it, but as long as you use some nice heavy threaded rod and some thick shelves you shouldn't have any sort of problems. the wider and deeper you make it the less likely it will be to tip over. other than that, heavier stuff on the bottom is always a good rule of thumb.Aguilar wrote:Anyone have one of these or any experience making them? I was planning on using 3/4" shelving and 5/8 threaded rods. Haven't really picked a material yet though. I want plywood so I can sand and finish it. However, I don't know if the plywood will be sturdy enough.
This one here is the closest I've found to what I want. Only difference would be where all the stereo equipment is would actually be the middle of it.

I built one for my vintage hifi. It was pretty fun to build. I recommend going to a bolt and fastener supply store instead of home depot or whatever though for the threaded rod and the nuts and stuff. You'll save a lot of money that way. Just do a nice job with the cuts and drilling the holes. Stack the pieces of wood on top of each other and use a drill press for the holes or make sure you have a guide for your drill because if you drill the holes slightly angled it will be the biggest pain in the ass to adjust and it will bind.
I'll try and take some pics later

Re: Flexy Rack
First of all sorry for resurrecting a thread. Second of all, last year I got around to prepping the wood and everything for one of these monsters. It took me forever to find a spot for it. Now that I've got my own place I was very very tired of having two entertainment centers for all my stuff. I'm very happy with the outcome. Fairly sturdy, although, not bullet proof by any means. I suppose as long as I don't kick the thing while listening to a record I don't have anything to worry about.
It stands over seven feet tall with the LCD on top and its a little over six feet wide. The project turned out to be rather time consuming with the sanding, staining, and polyurethane. I also put a radius on the edges so I wouldn't hurt myself if I got drunk and ran into it =p. With the threaded rods, numerous nuts and washers I'd say I spent close to $300 bucks building it. I still think I saved a few bucks building this compared to trying to find something this accommodating.
