Finally 1CC'd Gradius V

Post by BUHA »

First shmup 1CC. Gradius V. Only took me 192 hours! :x

But I never did stage select and I didn't use weapon edit and I only played on score attack. So I think I did pretty good.

Maybe I'll work on gaiden now!

Ps. Gaiden is cake.

:o No way!

I've 1cc'ed Gaiden 29 times in total in 1rst and 2nd loops. I've only gotten to the last level of GV once.

Compare to Gradius I to V I think Gaiden is the easiest of all.

Great 1st 1CC on a tough game; that's about 10 times the amount of hours I entertained myself to put in Gradius V...

Which option type do you use?

I use Type I BTW. And not yet 1cc the game even on Easy setting...

Gradius V is the "easiest" Gradius I've played, mostly because the smoother difficulty curve upon death makes it easier to apply consistent strategies to sections.

That said, it's not an easy game. Congrats, BUHA. I bet you were tense going into stage 8;)

Liar! It's sorta the reverse for me. I've 1cc'd Gradius V several times as well as 1lc'd it.

I've done Gaiden I think once.

IMO, both games have different "types" of challenges that they throw at you...GV is more "forgiving," with the smaller hitbox, more versatile options, etc., but it also throws a lot more stuff at you than Gaiden does. Gaiden's a bit more "traditional," in that you've got a bit less "wiggle room," but the overall challenges are a bit easier than V's.

In any event, congrats! :D

I would say GV is more difficult of the two as well. I cleared Gaiden after 11-12 hours of play, I've got about 20 hours into GV and the infernal green goo in Stage 6 still kills me most of the time. Maybe the majority of us are just more suited towards the traditional Gradii.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
