Thanks! Finally paired up a good stage 4 run with playing out of my mind on stage 5, for me anyways. I think I had 3 lives on the counter going into it, so with the extend that means I still died three times.

Well I got it in 2004 or early 2005, but there's been a lot of down time. I got to the point where 4 became manageable pretty early (after being a huge wall for a while), but stage 5 has always wrecked me. Like my progress on stage 5 from 2005 to 2013 was pretty much nil, partially cause I didn't play a lot, but still when I did it was always a killer, so this run was really really out of nowhere. Outside of arcade game's meet and up until a few days ago in my own cab, I haven't touched Ketsui in a few months.
In general though if I'm playing something, I just sit down and play like 30 minutes to an hour, somewhat daily. At this point with Ketsui it takes a day or two or three to get back to what I'd expect (stage 4-5, 50-70M). Probably not that good for fast progress but I figure it's enough time to usually get a decent run or two in and it keeps me playing more consistently over a longer period without burning me out.
That's pretty much how I used to play Strikers 1999 at the arcade in college now that I think about it. Just played a bit between classes for a few months, went from a credit feeder at first to eventually getting the high score, pretty sure that was also on a crazy run out of nowhere. So I guess just do what you need to do to keep on playing, eventually you'll break through.
