Drat, mine's on the "incompatible" list. I assume this firmware makes iTunes unnecessary to mess around with the device?

Considering most of the videos I watch generally aren't 200,000+ view ones, so they typically aren't drowning in shit comments.
Thank you YouTube Center for fixing things [temporarily, since YouTube will eventually remove the hooks that let you post without a G+ name], but it's really ass that you even need to have shit fixed on YouTube.

I think so. Unfortunately, my trusty iPod Nano (2nd gen, 4G) fell from my bag into the front wheel on my bike while I was riding it home from work and got totaled, so I never got to try this. I found out about Rockbox while Googleing alternatives. :/ Ended up getting an 80GB iPod Classic instead.

There's this alternativ software though, but I haven't really tried it: http://www.itools.cn/en_index.htm

People who suck the joy out of the holidays. Religious or not, misinterpreted or not, those are some of the few days of the year that I can kick back and relax, forget about work, enjoy food and memories in the company of my family, spend time with the nephews and share the joys of classic gaming with them.

It doesn't hurt to take time and reflect how lucky one is to have eletricity and running water, instead of having to walk a mile/Km to the well for a drink that may be full of delicious diarrhea-inducing parasites. I can respect someone who doesn't want to enjoy them, but keep the humbug out of the fah-la-la-la-la, pls.

"I'm looking for this item, found it's spot but doesn't have anything there. Any chance it's in the back?"

It should be quite fucking obvious that when a store is an air-con WAREHOUSE that there isn't going to be much of a "back" to check for stuff at a fancy. Your stationery/cheap/small $1 goods has no place sitting next to flat-pack furniture that requires two-person lifts - nor does it sit next to computer-related equipment varying up to $2000 in cost per item. These latter two are the only things in "the back".

Being cold enough to have to wear a jacket in-doors.

How the movie or whatever I want to watch is never one I happen to have, but when I order it on Amazon and it finally comes in, I no longer want to watch it. Worse if the movie turns out to suck.

This panel discussion on the new same-day delivery agreement between the USPS and Amazon was eye-opening - especially when they talked with the young reporter who spent 4 days working in their warehouses. She said she was at one location for 45 minutes and saw two people get fired in that time, while the manager told her that he could fire everybody on the floor and have replacements ready to go in an hour, due to all the applications. So they take your phones and put them on a desk, and fire you for talking or whatever they feel like. On top of that, people years beyond retirement age are working there. Nice.

I especially enjoyed the part of the segment where the lady from the national retail federation was lecturing everybody about being "irresponsible" (look it up in the transcript from the link). I got what she was saying - just half an hour later I'd be looking at different kinds of confounding variables - but it was quite absurd on the face of it to say that the pressures of same-day shipping and cost competitiveness won't directly push the retailers towards stiffing the employee, who is the least powerful individual in this whole chain.

After all the other panel members had talked about the problems faced by the workers, the best response was to say essentially "other factors can squeeze them too, and retailers have to contend with them." (There wasn't anything in the response about worker plight.) I guess the message was "don't feel bad that workers are getting screwed while you want same-day shipping; we'd find some other reason to screw them anyway."

The most annoying thing about iTunes converting everything to their horrible propitiatory format is that iPods can play pretty much everything you throw at them. This only makes Apple's enforced file extension hegemony that much more unpalatable. You can even use Winamp to format your iPod ready to dump everything on again. There's an auto-populate and everything.

Keep in mind a lot of people I know absolutely hate Winamp, and I'm sure there are lots of other free media players that do similar things.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but Special People on the highways:

I go in the passing lane to get past somebody in the right lane that's going maybe 5-10mph under my speed. The Big Cheese / Super Tuna in his gigantic 4x4 SUV/Truck runs up behind me (but it could be a luxury sedan or pretty much anything). I don't speed up but I do get over into the right lane as soon as I'm clear to get that vehicle, and the next two idiots racing to join him, off my tail so I can enjoy the open road again.

A minute later they're all piled up, stuck right behind somebody else who isn't moving. Good thing you guys sped past me or else you would end up at your destination behind me instead of the car just past me. Hurry up and wait.

That's not all! A while later I'm back in the passing lane and end up behind that one person, El Retireado* from Aintnothinadoigan, with both lanes wide open, who decides to go at precisely the speed limit, in the passing lane. More Big Tunas / Cheeses race on by before I can get out from behind slowpoke and enjoy the open road again.

Slowpokes and bumper-riders, how I wish a giant magnet /vacuum would come down from the sky and remove you from my beautiful roads.

Speaking of things: More people die in very rural, wide-open states than in congested areas, because in congested areas you might get into accidents but at 20-30mph they aren't as likely to be fatal and you're probably near a hospital anyway. Rural places tend to have more young people, which can make it look like young people are driving higher road fatality rates until you control for population density.

* Actually looked like a younger person but I'm past my daily quota of parsed stereotypes already.

Well, if you read that 1% of the Internet that actually talks about such things.

“Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?”

I'd throw in people (tourists and the elderly, usually) going >10 mph under the limit like they're out for a Sunday drive on 2-lane highways while everyone behind them is trying to get to work/get home. If you're getting passed by 2 or 3 cars at every passing zone, maybe you should speed up or pull off. Even worse on roads where there are no viable passing areas.

I think it's pretty well-understood that the passing zone is for, well, passing. If you want to go at precisely the speed limit, do it in the regular lane, please, and get the fuck outta the passing lane. Going at a lower speed than the speed limit in the passing zone invites responses like this, which is fortunate from the driver's perspective because they could've gotten pulled over.
