Re: 240p scanline reduction
I feel like the CRT hunters are running in circles. Remember the lengthy B&O thread going on till recently, with all the ups and down and the final statement ending with Trinitrons being SO MUCH better ?

Just to throw a spanner in the works I've been sitting in front of some Nanaos tonight and the real life image has far more pronounced scanlines than the photo example you're using. The contrast was set properly and they exhibited the localised blooming already spoken about.
Grab hold of a set you like the look of that has all the adjustments easily accessible, with decent stock focus and convergence, and job done.

Re: 240p scanline reduction
The best crt tv I have seen in recent years was during a NEC festival France in 2010.
About 20 or 30 tvs saved from the garbage dump had been gathered there.
Among those was a perfectly healthy 20" from the first half of the 90's, with a curved tube and full analogue chassis.
Standard shadow mask with phosphors looking sharp and fat at the same time, don't know how to describe it.
But above everything the colors looked amazing, so natural !
Enjoyed Alien Soldier on this beauty for a couple of hours that felt like 10 minutes.
Sure I own a nice big early 2000's trinitron tv that's only 7000h 'old', but its flat tube with horrible geometry issues and rather artificial-looking colors somewhat turn me off.
Wish I had a new astro or egret II with monitor in great condition.
