Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Accounts
Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Accounts
Word of warning for people considering to import: PS Vita TVs from Japan can only be used with Japanese PSN accounts.
That's pretty sucktacular for people who would like to play non-JP PSN games on it (physical PS Vita games are region-free).
I seriously hope Sony catches a lot of flack for this and doesn't lock down PS Vita TV when it's released in the west next year.

Sony should get a lot of flack for not accomendating US/EU PSN for a device that's not sold in US/EU? Uh, why?
It's still as region free as the Vita ever was.

Not really, because on PS Vita, you can use multiple memory cards (or backup/format a single one) to access PSN accounts in different locations.ZellSF wrote: It's still as region free as the Vita ever was.
With the Japanese PS Vita TV, you can only access Japanese (and other Asian) PSN stores.
Anyway, maybe the reason for this is simply that PSV TV hasn't been released elsewhere at this time and that PS Vita TV patches (required to make some PSV titles playable with a dualshock) for western PSN games haven't been made yet.

I'm considering importing the new Vita model PCH-2000, anyone knows if that will work with other region accounts? I guess yes, just to be on the safe side.

Yes, it works. Just note that on a Japanese Playstation system, "O" means confirm and "X" means cancel.

A surprising number of recent JP PS3 games nowadays (JoJo's is the latest I recall) seem to use the US standard of X:confirm/O:cancel now. Is that because they're detecting the console/language region and adjusting the controls accordingly now?
Re: Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Account
Exactly. If you were to play them on a JP PS3, it would be X to cancel and O to confirm.Ganelon wrote:Is that because they're detecting the console/language region and adjusting the controls accordingly now?
I actually find it unfortunate that you can't configure it that way in the settings of a western PS3 (unless you have a CFW installed). I think the Japanese way makes more sense, since it's the same system that has always been used by Nintendo: A (=same place as O on the pad) to confirm, B (same place as X) to cancel.
Re: Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Account
Just like you can on a Vita TV.Friendly wrote:Not really, because on PS Vita, you can use multiple memory cards (or backup/format a single one) to access PSN accounts in different locations.ZellSF wrote: It's still as region free as the Vita ever was.
Yes, there's very few Vita TV stores available yet, but you really can't be mad at SCEA/SCEE for not having infrastucture up for a device they're not selling.
The Vita TV is different, it has different controllers so it needs its own compatibility lists.antares wrote:I'm considering importing the new Vita model PCH-2000, anyone knows if that will work with other region accounts? I guess yes, just to be on the safe side.
The Vita 2000 is just a Vita and should work fine everywhere... Just like a JP Vita TV will work fine with a US account once the US version is released and infrastructure for it is up.

Sorry, but this is fucking stupid. In what universe does a gigantic X mean "okay"?

X as in X-cept [accept] and O as in O-no [oh no].GaijinPunch wrote:I think this is a language detection thing.Ganelon wrote:A surprising number of recent JP PS3 games nowadays (JoJo's is the latest I recall) seem to use the US standard of X:confirm/O:cancel now. Yes, it is super dumb.
And yeah, I noticed that Chronophantasma picked up the X/O meanings for the US region, I was wondering about that.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Account
I just figured it was less about the button symbol and more about the location of the X at the forefront of the controller.
Then again, the B button on a Genesis pad, the center button, nearly always backed out, and so did the B on a SNES controller...so...yeah.
Fuck it. Symbols are stupid.

Pirate logic? X marks the spot.

In all likelihood they thought that since O is used to mark stuff as correct in Japan and since we don't do that in the west, they had to switch it around. Or something like that. You know, like how check marks are used to mark incorrect answers on tests over there.GaijinPunch wrote:Sorry, but this is fucking stupid. Re: Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Account
Was just thinking about this... and why would anyone have expected this to work directly? We always knew the device would have to have a Vita TV specific storefront and that it would not exist in SCEA/SCEE territories.
The question for importers was: would it allow sideloading through PS3 or by using retail games? That's still unanswered.

Kotaki: Westerners Want PS Vita TV More than Sony ThoughtZellSF wrote:Vita TV specific storefront and that it would not exist in SCEA/SCEE territories.
Importing the Vita TV at this point is probably premature. Sony seemed surprised by the "Western interest" and the launch product was mainly intended for China. It seems that Sony wants to delay a Western release until Gaikai is up-and-running in North America. They would be well advised to use the delay to rush a 1080p capable hardware refresh through development as 720p sets are becoming less common and probably a lot of customers would buy this for HD streaming. Also I wouldn't be surprised if a new controller bundle would come with a DS4 (with Vita touch pad mapping) instead of a DS3.Sony needed to first determine the best timing to release something like this. Ito noted that they might need to add new elements to the Vita TV. "For example," Ito continued, stressing he was speaking hypothetically, "cloud gaming."

I meant at this specific point in time. I'm pretty sure it will be released in Europe / the US.HydrogLox wrote:Kotaki: Westerners Want PS Vita TV More than Sony ThoughtZellSF wrote:Vita TV specific storefront and that it would not exist in SCEA/SCEE territories.
And when it is, I'm sure anyone who bought a JP PS Vita TV can login to their EU/US accounts with it. I doubt it's region locked.
Edit: on a related note, they're increasing the activated Vita limit to 3 in Japan to accomendate the Vita TV. Hoping the same happens for US regions, I would rather not deactivate my PSP.
Re: Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Account
Bought PS Vita TV on launch 2 days ago, I can confirm you can only use a jpn/asia sen account.
About PAL/USA games compatibility, I will check when I go back home in Europe for holiday (25th November).

Re: Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Account
US Vita carts work as long as they're on the compatibility list.
Still don't get why Wipeout 2048 is not on that compatibility list, its touch screen controls are entirely optional except for the menu where the R3 mode would work perfectly.
That it refuses carts that aren't on the compatibility list probably means it also refuses PSN games that aren't on the compatibility list. Which means no hope for running games like Wipeout 2048 which would work perfectly but Sony says doesn't.

It's about damn time that SCEI will release the Vita TV in the West. So does that mean it'll be possible to play Jeff Minter's TxK killer-app on the USA region Vita TV setup then?

Re: Japanese PS Vita TV can Only be Used With JP PSN Account
I bought one the day it came out in Japan, huge waste of money. Hopefully the US release means the compatibility list will finally hit 100% (or shit even 50%
). Also hoping my US games will start working on it now.
