Donkey-Me - Classic DK Skin Mods

Post by Fudoh »

Every once in a while a freeware indie project can really make you smile.

Donkey Me adds classic movie themes (Gremlins, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Aliens...) to the original DK gameplay. Pixelart and music match some of greatest movie classics of all time. Soundtrack by Gryzor who did the music on the Locomalito games. Programming by Bruno Marcos, who did some amazing games in the past.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

Donkey me??? Donkey YOU, buddy.

Favorite detail: the little "Crom!" yell Conan does after climbing a ladder.

It was a little strange to see only three levels a loop, all with the gameplay of Donkey Kong's first level, but I think that turned out to be a good decision. Something mildly disappointing, though, was that the music for the hammer-equivalent is the same across all the movies. Makes me not want to pick items up and cut into the chiptune remixes.

Also interesting is how it feels a little different being chased by such enemies as sand people and hovitos, even though they're identical in terms of gameplay.
