Leaving Drinks #2

I'll be jetting away on the 15th, so this will be one more goodbye drink up opportunity. Can't guarantee free Dom Pérignon, but should be good fun anyhow.

Date: Wednesday 13th November
@ Wong Kei: 6PM SHARP
Venue: Chinatown

Then

Hippodrome Casino: 7:15PM
Venue: Drinks at the bar (no gambling required).

Then, wherever we may roam.

Be there!

Right - I'll make it there, but may miss Wong Kei. I've a 4,000 word article deadline that day, so will be working until about 7pm.

As for the casino, I've never been in one. Is there a dress code?

No dress code, no entry fee! Just walk in and watch people losing oodles of money while chilling out at one of several bars. It's pretty cool.

I bet once on a greyhound in about 1999. It was my first ever bet. I won about four quid and thought 'I'm up; may as well never bet again'. And I've stuck to that. Never played cards for money, put a coin in a fruity (scaffolder's laptop) or anything.

Great stuff James, your Wong Kei is on me - I owe you twofold.

Dan?
Theo?
Rupert?
Mike?
Blinge?
Anyone else?

The more the merrier of course. Chi will be there, so that's four already.

No worries dude, will catch you next year most probably. You missed an enthralling evening of drunken Zelda evangelising, revelatory revelations, and other amusing alcohol fuelled nonsense. I found out that people believe in monogamy but not love, which seems to be a contradiction in terms any way you look at it, and that you shouldn't judge the discounted wine list until you've read the small print prior to the cork being pulled.

In Hong Kong now wrestling with a cosmically awful time zone/sleep fuckup, and having a good time eating Wan Tan soup breakfasts in ramshackle Kowloon cafes and scouring the earth for arcades and game related stuffs. Went to a club in Lan Kwai Fong on Saturday night in pursuit of Chi's friend, and queue jumped with VIP status (thanks Chi!) and spent two hours with Mr. Remy Martin observing all the beautiful sharks swimming around the wallets of the rich and richer. DJ was great too.

Anyway Loading Cafe plans this week guys? I'm available Wednesday. I could bring along my new Shooting Love 10th Anniversary so we could play ∆Zeal (AKA G-Stream G2020). I just got Gunlord for DC too. I could bring along what we need to play that...

I won't be able to make it to Loading this week, so there are no plans at the moment, but don't let that stop you from organising something if you want to share the Shooting Love!

I wouldn't be jealous of a ruined sleeping pattern, although it's getting better now (touch wood). Four days here has been all kinds of win though, lots of walking and chilling out without being pressurised to sightsee.

Went for a walk to the harbour last night to look at the city view and a little (even by my standards) HK girl comes over with a cake and asks me if I could do her a favour and deliver it to her friend for her birthday, who was sitting none-the-wiser a way down the promenade. She didn't see me having to re-light her fucking candles six times, but Joey got an official gwai lo birthday surprise. Weird how being in another country seems to prompt all of these seemingly unique mini-adventures, without fail. Maybe it's just that Britain's really really shit.

Today I got a blister on my foot from walking everywhere, but I finally found the Sino Plaza - turned out to be across the road from my hostel - which is 5 floors of pure otaku frenzy. I saw a lot of PS4's.

And I saw Gravity in the most amazing cinema: it had vibrating seats calibrated to all the effects of the movie, including the heartbeat, and the digital 3D / 7.1 Dolby was mind-blowingly impressive.

Wicked! I'm there!

And I'll bring GunLord. Do they have DCs there?

Wicked to see you Friday JDE (a shame the rest of you couldn't make it). We realised that while the PS4 is very fancy, we really liked GunLord the most.

Guess what though JDE? When you were over at mine, the PSN PS4 store was up and running. We could have just bought and downloaded Resogun! That never even crossed my mind! Next time…

I don't think so, and even if they do there's no guarantee the DCs won't already be in use, so it's probably safest to bring one along if you don't mind.
I'll bring the SLG-in-a-Box you were interested in, so if you bring a DC VGA Cable as well then you can see what the upscaling and scanlines are like.

I'm still after a VGA DC cable! Any of you lot got one you;d like to shift?

Seems it's easier to find a DC VGA box/adapter, but you used a plain old DC VGA cable to rig up a DC to this SLG-in-a-box, right JDE?

But I shall bring the rest. DC, game, stick, pad, SCART lead and power cable. I've also got Psyvariar 2, Border Down, Giga Wing, Mars Matrix, Trizeal and Last Hope if anybody fancies the rest of them if Thursday night's going to be about Dreamcast.

So, anybody else coming, or is it just me and JDE again!?

I'll go to the arcade here in honour of the meet.

On return I found they removed an entire row of versus city cabs to make space for an enormous (really) train driving game. And I don't mean digital. It's a Japanese bullet train model housed in a glass tank. Four players sit at levers on the outskirts and drive the train around the model track. All the POP is in Japanese so no idea how to play it, but it's a thing to behold. It's a bit dark in there but I'll definitely try to get some pics.

No worries hzt. Looking that good means you need some beauty sleep. Be good to see you Thursday.

And Skykid - I'd love to see a photo of that train 'simulator' (?). Sounds like just the thing that could have saved Casino Arcade. The Casino Crew would have been wizards at it. I can feel it in my bones.

I'm soon to set off for the meet. Hopefully we might see some others (of course, JDE and hat, it will be glorious even if it is just you.

I'll bring the Dreamcast and stuff. And some cash for you JDE. I can't wait to get my hands on the SLG-IAB. I've been on a cable buying frenzy all week, so am ready for firing it up!
