Best CPS2 fighting game?

Post by dboeren »

If I wanted to get one CPS2 fighting game for my console, which one is the best? I'd like one with a lot of characters if possible, as well as quality gameplay.

At first glance, X-Men vs. Street Fighter looks good, but what do you all think?

I agree. I also have a very soft spot for the Darkstalers series, especially Vampire Saviour.

Pocket Fighter!

I have no idea if it's a CPS game or not, but I just love it too darn much.

I much prefer it to the third actually. Thought 3 was somewhat overly complex. Second one has just enought to it, feels nicely balanced and doesn't make my head hurt like 3. My vote would go to Children of the Atom though, damn I love that game.

Gotta vote for Super Turbo, though I loved X-Men vs. SF when it first came out.

Yeah, I wouldn't say SFA 2 is the best CPS2 game, but I thought more people would think that way.

My fav one is probably X-Men vs Street Fighter ...

I would say..Super Turbo, or Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha..it was the one that was similar to Street Fighter Alpha 2 gold that was ported home. It has lots of variations on characters, and the really good version of Evil Ryu. My vote..SF Collection for saturn, both of the aforementioned games in one pack..

more like doesn't anyone like the original SFA/Z? Horrible damage! Great voices! absolute Akuma abuse! My fav in terms of style.

I love all the street fighter zeros/alphas though

In no order:

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Marvel Super Heroes

Guess that's it. Unless SFIII: Third Strike is a CPS2 game. In which case if it is, then it wins hands down.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Jojo's Bizarre Adventure a CPS3 game?

Both Jojo and SF3:3S are CPS-3.

Personally, I cast my vote for Alpha 3. Amazing how few people still have even a rudamentary idea as to how to defend against a Vega player, so thumbs up.

I'm beginning to rethink my liking of alpha 3. Particularly because I play as Sakura, but as her you will be beaten by someone with Charlie/Nash, Akuma, or Zangief 90 percent of the time.

I'm writing this while I'm very frustrated (just lost to Zangief on level TWO    of arcade mode) though on a good day I should be able to breeze thru the first five levels on arcade defaults...maybe I'm just not good enough at the game yet.

Human opponents aren't an option, btw.

At any rate, I'm having a lot of fun with super sf2 turbo at the moment. Great fucking game.

My favorite CPS2 fighters are Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Street Fighter II Turbo.

I'm not a fan of the DarkStalker/X-Men or Verus games, but deffiantly check them out :)

It's a shame the the arcade version of Alpha 3 didn't have Fei Long

I like alpha 3 as a fun game, but honestly I think the game engine is broken. Alpha 2 is a much more serious and well rounded game engine. I just don't think I'm a big fan of the alpha series altogether.

Honestly, if I was collecting PCBs I'd be going after some of the lost stuff, like Alien vs. Predator (which I still think was a highlight for capcom and one of their very best side scrollers.

The problem I see with arcade collection regarding capcom is that almost every game they made is available via a console port, the exceptions being AvP, Battle Circuit, Powered Gear (or whatever it was called--side scroller with mechs), Punisher (may have gotten a port actually) and maybe the first dark stalkers (though the two sequels are much better).

It would seem to me that the whole reason for having a cps2 set up would be to play progear and dimahoo. *shrugs*

Well, the SFZ3 Upper arcade conversion on the Naomi did, along with Hawk, DJ, and Guile.

Neon, why don't you just start playing it on Kaillera? If you have problems with arcade mode you're obviously going to get thrown around like a ragdoll, but at least you'll be learning how to actually play the game. And you can't complain about a lack of competition then, either.
