I get four 'weapon allocation points' out of every level, and even sometimes five.

To give you an impression of my scoring (and thus if you're doing the same as me or differently), I can push the multiplier to about x4.96 on stage one, and typically over x10 on stage three.

You have to kill stuff with your elemental weapons (or burst) to get ether chips for level up
You have to kill stuff with your elemental weapons (or burst) to raise your multiplier

So, the same thing that makes you score well also makes you level up, even if scoring and levelling up aren't directly related.

Buying a good STG always makes sense. :)

I've never spent as much money on games as on some of the STGs I bought, but I'm getting a lot of mileage out of them, which then makes them comparatively cheap. I've probably clocked around 50 hours in SDOJ so far. It's the only game I've been playing for over two months now, and I'm still looking forward to every credit I play. On the other hand, the last mainstream game I played was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (don't laugh!). Bought it when it was around 15 or 16 pounds, finished the campaign in two or three sittings, in a total of about 5 hours, and haven't touched the game ever since. In terms of value for money that's actually piss-poor, and I feel ripped off. That franchise is dead to me.

Cod? Sorry mate I had to laugh! I'm glad you've seen sense by playing lots of sdoj and ordering caladrius,When talking about all the FPS crap, gaming just feels like something I don't relate too,I just find most 'modern' games so dull! Hopefully that sense I've had couple drinks!

Oh, and those 5 hours of Call of Duty felt like a drag. 20 minutes of SDOJ are more exciting than hours of mainstream gaming. I feel that for the most part I left mainstream gaming behind.

Dunno how I feel about this so far. Seems like a really awkward in-between of manic and bullet hell, with the bullets being too slow to be thrilling but not numerous enough to really weave through. It feels like... laid back, even though it's actually really hard. I never feel like there's a frantic pace or anything, and it seems like only half of the special weapons are worth using. Mostly they feel really weak instead of giving you that feeling of raw shooting game power.

I'm gonna give it some more time, though, and see how it grows on me. I like the idea of it at the very least, and maybe it'll feel more energetic once I can make it past level 2 <:O

Have you unlocked the ability to customise shots (to assign shots from different characters to one another)? That was a game changer from me. That unlock is very easy through the likes of starting the game on a final stage etc., if I remember correctly, as is unlocking character Caladrius.

The pressure comes from playing for score, without doubt. Pushing that multiplier for each stage means some real risk and strategising. Have a go at pushing the multiplier on stage 1 to around x4.96 (about my personal best for that stage). That's how the game wants you to play it.

Playing just for survival, it's much, much less rewarding (especially in contrast to other games).

Nah, that would probably help things since I feel like each character has one totally worthless shot type. They always seem to have one great one, one that's okay, and one I hate. And I think they're all different shots, too. So if I could mix and match I'd probably enjoy things more. I assume I just have to complete the game, regardless of how many credits I used or where I started?

Yep - loads of detail here in this forum's strategy discussion/guide here, where you can also learn about scoring big.

You can credit feed and start your run at the game's final* stage (using the settings in the the first Story mode screen) for all this, I'm sure. To unlock Caladrius, you must finish the game with the three main characters. To open customisable weapons, you must clear the game with each character (I can't remember if customisation unlocks individually for each character, or for all three once you complete it with all of them).

And you can use this forum's high-score board for the game to get an impression of the best weapons arrangement to use (and to post a score!).

* By final stage, I mean stage 5. If you 1-credit the game from the start to defeating the stage 5 boss, a sixth stage is opened, but I believe you can do the unlocks just by completing stage 5.

One more note - 'cut-in break' and 'shame break essentially always refers to the same thing. When it happens (defeating a phase of the boss in limited time), the player succeeds in delivering a cut-in break, and the boss is the victim of a shame break. At least, that's how I understand it.

Well this certainly clears things up, hah.

I always thought Kei's shield move was terrible, though >_>

It took me a while to adapt to Kai's shield, but as you can use it offensively and defensively (especially powered up through the course of a credit), it's the don of shield weapons!

After a brief search, I couldn't find if anyone mentioned this. But the GoD version on the Japan marketplace is not IP locked. I was able to DL it with my Japanese account (on my Japanese 360).

Not necessarily. I would imagine it would still be region locked, as per the physical release.

Let me test that out and get back to you on it.

But how do you pay for it now that MS has scrapped Live! points? Non-Japanese Paypal is OK?

They still sell pre-paid cards in he currency. Play-Asia, for example, sells them.

Edit: The game itself IS region-locked, which I expected.

So, the GoD version won't work on a US 360 then?

You can still redeem Microsoft Points cards. They will be converted to the region's respective currency.

Here's a new PV for Caladrius AC.

It's taken them long enough to make this, the game's been out for over 2 months.

Also Mikado "experience meeting"

Some special event with machines on free play, cosplayers and a demonstration by a superplayer. 19th of this month.

Yes, in options under Illust, set it to the very last option. It will turn off the no miss backgrounds and the cut-ins.
Cool, now I will play this when it hits the PS3 then.

I played this for the first time last week at the Mikado by Takadanobaba station. It was my first time visiting that arcade, too.

I scored 10th. Yay.

I thought it was clever how the girls' clothing would get ripped each time they got hit. Good way to create a nice shmup and cash in on the spanktards too. Also, Raiden toothpaste cannon FTW.

It sounds like they're adding the new content from Caladrius Blaze to the 360 version this summer.

I doubt anyone here is surprised, but it is good to finally see confirmation. So it's a 2 year anniversary present.

Major props to Moss. Even if it's paid DLC, the dev time required costs money that shmup devs clearly don't have these days.
