Self-imposed tournament-preparation

Post by Captain »

Gonna put it simple, there will be a tournament with very specific (hopefully challenging) rules for each game, the only thing to stop you from cheating is your sense of honor.

But before the fun starts, i need to set up the actual rules and games.
I think you can get what type of game this is about, with one exception.

Here's what i had in mind.

All games: playing for score is not allowed, survivial is priority.

Thunder force 4: only use starting weapons and 50% speed and no picking up Claws/Craws, if you reach the event-craws, suicide immediately and continue with normal rules. limited to two lives lost.
Thunder force 5: no over weapon use, no free range. Limited to three lives.
Dodonpachi: use a certain cheat to start at loop 2, no bombs.
Blazing star: no charging weapons, dinos and peplos not allowed, no artificial autofire.
Eliminate down: use a certain cheat to only fire the frontal laser, but at an increased fire rate, limited to two lives.
Gradius Gaiden: no options or ripple-slot weapon.
R-type Delta: R9 only, no level 2 wave cannon, limited to one life.

Suggest games to switch with others and rule-changes.

You can't exactly prevent someone from playing for score, just say that score doesn't matter

So you meant that only survival matters, or are you going to enforce low score play?

the only ones that really come to mind are

ESPGaluda and ESPGaluda II where you go into Kakusei right at the start and right after any death and play the entire game in kakusei overheat.

Guwange without using the shikigami.

And of course there's a lot of silly options for other games, just I can't be bothered to try thinking of some right now.

you know

you could take a bunch of people who know about the genre and have never played or otherwise know nothing about a specific game

and uh

run a little tournament where the objective of each game pick is to beat it or otherwise achieve the set goal

um

timed. as best as is possible. yes. maybe not so much "bust out the wsplit" as "try to remember or count how many hours".

sikraiken would still win every week but w/e just make him #0 every week or smth

i'm totally serious about all this.

This is a solid idea, for one.

Just pick any Toaplan game and state that only the 'area' counter is what matters.

Raiden Fighters, Mk-II strawberry toothpaste only.
