Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
The DSub/HD15 output is a passthrough output. For 15khz RGB you HAVE to use the BNC outputs.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
If the lights go crazy on the front, it means it can't latch on to its input signal. As Fudoh says, you need to use the BNC for connection to your JAMMA.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
but that shouldn't be why the lights go crazy, unless tying the syncs together at the VGA out messes with the VGA in.
maybe try unplugging the VGA out first to see if the Extron will stop flashing.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
that's likely a problem with the 360 defaulting to some stupid 16:9 VGA resolution when set to VGA. He needs to connect it to a monitor through VGA first, make sure it's set to 4:3 and 640x480 and then it should be fine.

Beaps has already confirmed that the 360 was set to 640x480 via VGA.

Lights only go crazy when I connect the VGA out and switch on the cab. Before I switch on the cab I have the one nice solid input lightantron wrote:but that shouldn't be why the lights go crazy, unless tying the syncs together at the VGA out messes with the VGA in.

that's it then. using BNC should work.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Mashing H&V together on the "monitor out" won't help...... you're lucky you haven't damaged it with some form of back feeding. That is very bad practice imo.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
If you look at the very first thread it says run a wire from pin 1 to video ground, which I did. With it connected or not I still get the same picture.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
It seems more a problem of the connections between the Emotia and the connector you use to connect your monitor to. Did you connect all four grounds (R/G/B/Sync) on both ends (Emotia and the other end of the cable) ? Also try to flip the terminations switch on the back of the Emotia.
I would take the Emotia out of the cab for moment and check if the composite and/or s-video outputs on the Emotia work fine on a regular TV set. After that take it back to the cab...

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Silly question...
On the BNC cables, I connected the signal to say red. The outer shielding (the cable grounding I think) is doing nothing. Am I supposed to connect to something?

yes, to ground. On all four BNC ports. You can connect all four of them to the same ground line on the other side (as long as you're sure it's really wired to ground somewhere)

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Was your E2 being used with PCBs before this? Non arcade RGB video levels are different, and some arcade monitors don't compensate for the difference.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
We have some fundamental understanding issues here.
Beaps - step away from the soldering iron and think about this logically.
What you're trying to do is very very easy and you're not looking to re-invent the wheel..... well, not this week.
All your fingerboard needs (from the Extron) is R, G, B, Gnd and Sync, to get a signal to push through to your monitor. It is that simple...... so if it's not working, something fundamental must be wrong.
1) Whilst your XBOX is connected to the Extron, you should have LED 3 lit only on the front of your Extron - Check?
2) The output from your Extron needs to utilise the R, G, B & S BNC's - Check?
3) Centre of R BNC should go to PIN 12 parts side on JAMMA edge connector - Check?
4) Centre of G BNC should go to PIN 12 solder side on JAMMA edge connector - Check?
5) Centre of B BNC should go to PIN 13 parts side on JAMMA edge connector - Check?
6) Centre of S BNC should go to PIN 13 solder side on JAMMA edge connector - Check?
7) Take ALL (just to be safe) Grounds from each of your R,G,B & S BNC's to PIN 14 parts side on JAMMA edge connector - Check?
Remove ALL other wiring from the JAMMA edge that are not stated above - Check?
Let me know what you get when you go through this.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
That's what stage I am at Fagin. The only thing I missed was connecting up the BNC grounds which in my last post I said I have now done.
The picture still looks crap. When the 360 starts say, the green Xbox startup screen say, looks illiminus green. (where all the swirls make the Logo)
Don't get me wrong guys although I am new at this I can follow simple guides and solder skills are pretty good

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
So all the above steps are checked as per above?
What else have you got connected to your fingerboard?
Assuming the first answer is Yes and the second answer is Nothing:
1) remove all grounds to PIN 14 and only reconnect Sync ground from Extron to PIN 14. What happens?
2) press the voltage push button on the back of the Extron. What happens?

Ok so all grounds removed apart from sync and it's the same image. Pressing the button on the back is difference between crap screen and blank screen

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
OK - I knew the voltage switch would not do anything as your problem is not RGB line voltage related - just wanted to be double sure though.
What change (does it alter the image) in image do you get if you remove the ground completely?

Also.... it's important you read what I'm asking and answer in full mate. There are the initial two questions I asked above, that you haven't reconfirmed (So all the above steps are checked as per above? & What else have you got connected to your fingerboard?). Humour me even if your answer is obvious.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
I currently have this only connected to the fingerboard
r,g,b,s = all signals in place
The ground from the bnc sync only, wired to pin 14 only. Nothing else is connected to the fingerboard.
