I'm quite happy to here this news. I thought Taito did a good job of porting Mushi except for the fact that it did not support digital audio.

If Ibara has a really tough rank system for its arcade mode then they should throw in an arranged mode where the rank won't be an issue.

If this could be brought to U.S. shores, Taito would own my money guaranteed.

It will never happen. Anybody who truly wants this game should just buy a Jap PS2.

Hmm, interesting bit o' news indeed...considering this game's reputation as a tough sonuvagun, I wonder if Taito will add in an "Arrange" type mode to it, a la Mushi? In any event, while I definitely have my "issues" with Garegga and its play style, I'm still interested in trying this, because in spite of how Garegga managed to irk me, I still liked it enough in other ways to plunk down for it. As far as port quality's concerned, an improvement on Mushi would definitely be nice, but considering that the aforementioned at least included the "essentials" (tate mode, 60 FPS, etc.), I probably wouldn't be too disappointed in a port of similar quality.

That said, I will still wait for "actual" confirmation before assuming much else, heh.

I would be perfectly happy with just a straight ahead port (w/no extras), as long as they provide an option for NON-INTERLACED VIDEO (a.k.a lowres). You'd think with such a small target audience that Taito would pick up on something as simple this!
That takes a lot of extra effort and we should be happy we're getting a port of this game at all.

Not only will it not be true low res, the PS2 (or Taito) likely won't be able to handle an otherwise 1:1 port of the game, if the (allegedly) massive slowdown in the Mushi conversion is any indication.

Another unrealistic demand.

Why anyone wouldn't have their ps2 be import-capable at this point is beyond me. So much Grade A shit, you'll never run out of good games.

I hope it doesn't have tate, just to spite everyone at this point.

That's a good point. While Ibara doesn't have the mass of pink bullets that makes Mushi stutter in places, it does have debris and Raizing-like explosions all over the place.

Hopefully it won't affect the actual port much. The slowdown might actually be handy in this case ^_-

I dunno, I've seen some posters insist that the port has more slowdown than the arcade version, and other swear that it actually has less. Either way, I've never played the original and almost certainly never will, but honestly, as long as the slowdown in a game isn't really awful I won't mind too much if it's a bit more or less than the arcade.

"Massive" slowdown in Mushi? That depends. Can someone who has actually played the PCB (which slows down too i hear) confirm this?

*gives the Clark Steel KOF silent salute to the Taito exec in awe of this news*

Even though Xexex on PS2 turned out to be false, the Ibara story sounds too real to not be true- this is Taito taking on another Cave game.

Definitely sold.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Yeah, PCB slows down occasionally as well, starting from second level iirc. Usually it's welcome though, if you kow what I mean.

Yes, the PCB version of MushiHimeSama does got some deliberatly solw down during play. The game slown down at some fixed point and slow down for the same amount of time everytime. Cave have this slown down codded in the game program code.

But why? Some said they do this to smoothen the hardware slowdown, But I said they done this deliberatly to make the game more fair to paly. Since I believe nowadays hardware could run the game smoothly even in 20 times the normal speed.

May be the extra is to allow to use the Battle Garegga's plane and use the Battle Garegga's rules.

Cave deliberately encoded slowdown into the PCB? That is very interesting. Thanks for the info, SAM.

And this is why at times I'd rather live in Japan, although there's a smaller base of shmup fans here in the U.S. the ones who are shmuppers nearly at times have to break the bank in order to play the best of the best.

I'm too broke to import, only thing I can do is MAME some of the older shooters, but again Taito could do with Ibara what Konami did with CV Chronicles (yes CV is more popular among gamers, but there are Cave fans in the U.S. as well) release a small quantity of copies, let the shmuppers snatch them up, and be happy with the extra cash they'll make off the sales. Sure you won't sell a ton of copies, but I bet a majority of the copies would be bought. I'm guessing they'll spend more money to release a small batch here than what they'll make, bah.

Either that or hope one day Ibara sees MAME release (about many moons down the road I'm sure) and play it there.

Bloodreign, sell some old games or something, you will not regret getting an import PS2. The likes of DOJ and Ibara will be on MAME years from now and whenever they are you'll have to drop money on a PC that can actually handle them anyways.

How do you know there is deliberate slowdown? Also, don't overestimate the power of today's hardware. Yes they are much faster, but a large number of sprites on the screen at once will cause slow down. Each sprite causes 2 blit (block transfer) operations each frame. A blit operation transfers the image from system memory into the video memory representing the screen. At 60 fps, enough of these operations can overwhelm the cpu.

Based on my experience with the ps2 version of Mushihimesama, slow down occurs where there are lots of sprites on the screen and probably is not deliberate. I don't mind the slow down -- it keeps me alive!

The pcb version of mushihime sama also has slowdown, but I find that the ps2 version is easier to play. On the other hand, the ps2 versions of ESPG/DOJ seem to play exactly the same as the pcbs.

It's great news when even one of Cave's "less popular" games gets a port.

Ibara being "less popular" is speculation started from the rapid price drop of the PCB. According to figures from Arcadia and River Service, the profit in the arcade was about even with Mushihime (1:1 timescale), and well above other recent shooters.

Raizing lives. :D

Indeed. Though the question of whether it's intentional or not is difficult to answer.

There are more slowdowns in PCB's Maniac. And the game is a little slower in some points (like the beginning of the third stage, if I remember good). I don't know precisely about Original (and Ultra) but a friend says that original in PCB is a little harder than the PS2 one.
Anyway, nothing that can make me scream that the port is so bad, except the first attack of the fourth boss, there is a little change on the pattern there, totally senseless.

taito port..
i'll wait to see how his turns out, but i'm not buying it new if it has no low res.

in the ps2 port, it's not so much the amount of slowdown that annoys me but how the speed brutally comes back to normal, as if you were playing shikigami2 with wait on. that doesn't feel like cave slowdown, is it the same in the PCB?

It's pretty much guaranteed not to.

We'll be getting a lot fewer ports if the demand for 'true low res' gets high. Would you rather the games not be ported at all?

This is so ridiculously minor. Everyone needs to get bent already.

All you poor stickler bastards are going to miss out on Gigawing Generations.

I didn't buy GWG out of principle (I can't stand Gigawing). If people are getting fussy about hi/low-res, then don't buy the game, simple. You'll miss out on an awesome game in that case.

This hi/low-res thing is a little silly anyway. I play on an LCD screen and can't tell the difference. I guess I'm the kind of player that isn't fussy about the display method, as long as I get to play the damn game. And I play the PCB in RGB SCART. Mmmmm... fuzzy.
