I'm considering switching to fibre-optic broadband. What are people's experiences with BT Infinity in terms of reliability, stability, etc? The reviews I've seen online seem to have been written a couple of years ago, before BT (apparently) stopped throttling download speeds earlier this year.
My current ADSL syncs at a pretty consistent 6Mbps downstream. While not lightning-fast, I'm on a 20:1 contention ratio, while BT Infinity seems to be 50:1 (though that's not stated on their site). I worry that I may gain a higher theoretical speed on Infinity, but a lower actual speed due to the higher line contention.

Sorry can't help you with BT Infinity, Virgin Media not in your area? I think this forum doesn't have many people from UK?
I'm with virgin media, 120meg package, I always get that speed too with 12meg up.

I'm on BT Infinity and get the 40 meg down, 10 meg up that's advertised as available for my area. No throttling and unlimited really does mean unlimited. Haven't had any downtime either.

I'm with PlusNet (which uses BT provider) and currently on the 80/20 service. I'm some distance from the green cabinet and attain 57/16 unlimited - service has been great and customer service is good.
