Oh I'm also hoping GT6 will really knock it out of the park. I was so psyched when I heard it was coming for PS3 and not PS4.

Same here, especially after GT5 was kind of meh, especially when it first released.shmuppyLove wrote:Oh I'm also hoping GT6 will really knock it out of the park. I was so psyched when I heard it was coming for PS3 and not PS4.

Not to be a dick but after the masterpiece that was Blood Money, Absolution was so awful. I mean what kind of Hitman game starts out a mission by itemizing the ways you can complete it? Also the higher difficulties are downright broken. All IO Interactive did was remove all the streamlined condescending horseshit and Instinct mode but failed to replace Instinct Mode with something else so now we have a game where not only do the disguises not work but since the entire game utilizes Instinct Mode to cover up your face and whatnot, it just reeks of poor design choices.SuperSoaker360 wrote:Hitman Absolution
The sad part is I don't blame Square for doing what they did. It was either put the Hitman series away or make garbage that hopefully resonated with the mainstream audience to revitalize the series.

I found Blood Money way too easy to even consider it a stealth game masterpiece. In fact, it was the easiest game in the series.ZaKa-tokyobassist wrote:the masterpiece that was Blood Money
Several difficulties that cater to the casuals as well as the hardcore veterans of the series. Not only that but the options also allow you to customize the difficulty you're on by removing instinct hints and the like.ZaKa-tokyobassist wrote:I mean what kind of Hitman game starts out a mission by itemizing the ways you can complete it?

You do realize Purist was designed to cater to the veterans who are minimalists when playing the Hitman games, right? Not only that, but Instinct mode is still there on Purist, despite it not showing up. The only poor design is that you can't see how much your Instinct meter is at so you're literally using Instinct Blend and keeping your fingers crossed that it doesn't run out while you're in a tight spot. Disguises still work as long as people in the same outfit don't notice you. This has been a game design for the Hitman games prior to Blood Money. It's understandable that you may not like that design (honestly, a lot of people seem to have mixed feelings about bringing that design back).
You should probably do another take on this game. The game doesn't only just seem to cater to the mainstream audience, but it also caters to the hardcore audience as well. You should take a look on YouTube for some minimalist playthroughs. There are some seriously impressive players out there.ZaKa-tokyobassist wrote:It was either put the Hitman series away or make garbage that hopefully resonated with the mainstream audience to revitalize the series.

A game isn't defined by how easy or hard it is. It's whether the design choices add up to something fun and Hitman: Absolution falters in even doing what the name of the game is: Playing a HITMAN!
Say what you will but you in fact need to use the radar on higher difficulties even moreso than lower ones. Being jaded to a game and knowing every nuance is obviously going to dilute that necessity of using the map but it's a moot point and still useful for improvisation's sake
The story was completely ass suck bad and the creator's designed the game around the plot which wouldn't have made for a Hitman game but an action/drama movie. Hitman: Blood Money at least had character. I wanted to kill every piece of shit I was contracted to because the game gave you an insight on the targets you are taking on and it made me care as to why they need to die instead of killing random people.
The new Glacier engine absolutely amazing but it's put to bad use man. I really wanted to like Absolution but it was more like Splinter Cell Conviction which was an abomination on not only the series but stealth games. Plus it's hard to respect a game that barely has new ideas in the sandbox missions there are. One was ripped straight from the Hitman 2 Chinatown mission.

A game that's way too easy isn't going to feel fun if you're after something challenging.ZaKa-tokyobassist wrote:A game isn't defined by how easy or hard it is. It's whether the design choices add up to something fun

Re: Games this generation which really impressed you
As a rule videogames have lost their magic for me, modern gaming anyway. Ever since they went 3D it went downhill for the style of games I like. Nowadays the majority of developers seem obsessed with creating ultra realistic graphics and trying to imitate real life or cinematic Interactive movies games with dodgy awkward 3D analog controls with endless cutscenes and boring padded out objectives. They're just sooo boring. I play any of the assassins creed games and I feel like taking a nap after 20mins. Don't get me wrong I still love 2D videogames but I'm very selective what I play now, Japanese made 2D Arcade games and home 16 Bit is when video games hit their stride imo, or maybe I'm just too old
Short hard challenging 2D arcade games is where I get most pleasure from videogames. Not 10+ hour interactive movies with boring messy combat.
I mainly bought my 360 for Tetris Splash online and Super SF2 Turbo HDR, but I did play a couple gems last gen :-
Portal 1+2 - These games blew my mind, a puzzle game at heart more than a fps. Having the Smerch do the voice over was a welcome bonus
Braid - An excellent 2D platform puzzle game with a different clever gameplay mechanic each level, great stuff.

My maid tells me that there's someone dissing one of the finest stealth games ever made. I need to adress this.
What are you on about with ideas? There are tons of cool ways to kill people. The only thing there's wrong here is that there aren't enough sandboxy levels but the straight forward sneaking missions did also allow for different routes and they were challenging and fun to route your way through. In addition, this game is much more designed around allowing for minimalist play compared to some of the earlier hitman games. You can beat this entire game without disguises (so complaining about them not being blood money-tier lolbroken anymore is silly), while never killing or knocking out non-targets, while gathering up all the intel items and this on Purist mode. It's possible, it's hard as hell but it's possible. Due to awesome distraction mechanics.
I felt that this aspect was kinda absent from ealier games. If you wanted to clear missions without disguises in earlier games then you pretty much had to work against the game designers and abuse bugs and whatnot instead of Absolution where it's actually designed in a manner that lets ingenuity solve just about any situation.
Well you do play as a Hitman doing Hitman-like things. You are right about the story-focus being a terrible thing for the game but if you'd just skip that shit and look at what matters, the gameplay, then you'll see that you are in fact still killing people in creative ways using stealth (moreso than ever) and cunning.ZaKa-tokyobassist wrote:A game isn't defined by how easy or hard it is. You can play on Expert and still get a radar iirc. Use this mode if you want to avoid the Purist restrictions you are complaining about. This is what I played through the game on first time. And damn straight, it took time to beat it. Compared to Hitman Contracts or Blood Money where getting through the highest difficulty with perfect ranks on all of them was no biggie to figure out. Also, stop needing a map to improvize. That is seriously lame. :VSay what you will but you in fact need to use the radar on higher difficulties even moreso than lower ones. Legitimate complaint, I'll give you that. The story was the games big flaw. It shouldn't have been story based. Only as far as the previous games was, this is taking it too far.The story was completely ass suck bad and the creator's designed the game around the plot which wouldn't have made for a Hitman game but an action/drama movie.
