So do most of you guys play Batrider on MAME?
I can't imagine everybody here has the arcade board.
Re: So do most of you guys play Batrider on MAME?
Considering that the only alternative is the PCB, the answer is very much yes. It's too bad it released too late for a Saturn port to be viable.

Re: So do most of you guys play Batrider on MAME?
I just did a unscientific survey of all the people who own the board I could find at an instant's notice. That person still plays on MAME. Dunno why, but part of the reason is that there is some silly hostility to playing the "A" revision...if that's what you have, you basically need a ROM swap to compete.

MAME has a more up-to-date version?Ed Oscuro wrote:I just did a unscientific survey of all the people who own the board I could find at an instant's notice. That person still plays on MAME. No, there are just PCBs with different rom sets. MAME emulates most of them. I think the Taiwan Version B is not dumped yet.
Actually I think PCBs with the unpopular Japan Version A are not so common.

I am more concerned about input lag on mame, thats the reason i have never played it seriously. if some one could compare a pcb to mame and determine if the input lag is inherent to the game or added by mame, it would be really helpful.
I tried playing on mame but the input lag throws me off quite a bit. cant make those split second dodges.

I played both PCB and MAME, but I can say this. There's something special having the game on a Astro City cab that is hard to replicate on a PC: the arcade experience. Only way is having friends, a shmup meetup, convention, or other events to share the game with. Nothing against this forum, but I like sharing my experience with this game with other people who I can talk to face to face.

iirc ver.a actually does have some differences that makes it inferior... but i think they're the "ver.b is an advantage" kind.
Rage Pro, Rage Fury, Rage MAXX!
Re: So do most of you guys play Batrider on MAME?
ver.A has a bug that will let you fight the same boss over and over, letting you get scores otherwise impossible.
ver.B fixes that and adds C button option formation for Garegga ships, and some other stuff as well.

The pcb definitely has some input lag as well (as does Garegga). But, don't let that stop you from playing it.nasty_wolverine wrote:I am more concerned about input lag on mame, thats the reason i have never played it seriously. if some one could compare a pcb to mame and determine if the input lag is inherent to the game or added by mame, it would be really helpful.

So its inherent in the game, (also guessing same with bakraid). I am using lagless mame anyway, so a 2-3 frame lag is almost the same as the PCB then?jepjepjep wrote:The pcb definitely has some input lag as well (as does Garegga). I guess i would be putting in a little more practice into playing this than just credit feeding.

That sounds about right. It's noticeable compared to something like Dodonpachi, but after playing for a while you get used to it.nasty_wolverine wrote:I am using lagless mame anyway, so a 2-3 frame lag is almost the same as the PCB then?
Re: So do most of you guys play Batrider on MAME?
I've been playing it all day on the nac and this game is hard as nails. Practice, practice I guess.

Did anybody get to the bottom of this? I'm not really sure about the "I confirmed the ROMs" but don't see any reason to second-guess it.trap15 wrote:Yes, I was under the impression that this only happened with the A version. I think it was trap15's last tournament where he chose Boss Rush for the competition with some interesting settings. At the very least, it gets you very quickly used to the bosses and their patterns, which is crucial to surviving the game.parts wrote:I've been playing it all day on the nac and this game is hard as nails. Now when I play and I get to a boss, it's no big deal. I think, "Ah cool, Bashinet, I can handle him no problem"
Re: So do most of you guys play Batrider on MAME?
yup. not that I've cleared advanced course yet - I haven't - but I started with easy then moved to normal after the 1CC... and if you learn the bosses the game becomes surprisingly easy. The stages aren't really difficult to clear whatsoever.shmuppyLove wrote:I think it was trap15's last tournament where he chose Boss Rush for the competition with some interesting settings. The arcade pcb version suffers from slow down on my nac for some reason. Strawman ship will blast through a lot of flak. Boss rush is interesting.

Yeah, lots of action going on. Raizing pushed that hardware to it's limit.

In regards to the Bashi1 time-out bug, we confirmed that ookitarepanda's PCB wasn't Ver. B afterall, so that explains it.Ed Oscuro wrote:From the other thread -trap15 wrote:ver.A has a bug that will let you fight the same boss over and over, letting you get scores otherwise impossible.
