Is there anything that can take 240p and upscale to 480i?
Friends, I got in my setup a Sony PVM2950Q that can take RGB and component input. I can use my JS technology RGB to YUV converter if I must use component input.
I wanted to keep playing on it while recording my games so I bought an Avermedia Game Capture card but the lowest it can record is 480i.
The highest my Sony PVM can take in RGB or Component is 480i.
So I would like to know is there anything that can take 240p RGB and output 480i RGB or even
Anything that can take 240p component and output 480i component?
Some kind of line line multiplier or something like that?

240p to 480i wouldn't be upscaling. It's the same amount of information.
But, not there is not. All you can is use a linedoubler to get 480p, which then your Avermedia can record.

Correct if I'm wrong but the Sony PVM can't take 480p. Never tested and I'm not even sure if it's possible to output 480p in RGB or even YPbPr.Fudoh wrote:240p to 480i wouldn't be upscaling. It's the same amount of information.

Is there any linedoubler that can take component input and also output component? or even RGB and output rgb?

You could just buy a SC-500N1 / PEXHDCAP card that can capture 240p RGB (and up to 720p HDMI etc). They are dirt cheap now. If you want to be future proof, you could also get the SC-512N1 which can capture up to 1080p60.
I know that it's not what you wanted, but a converter just adds complexity to your setup and wouldn't be cheap either.

you would split the signal after the source.Correct if I'm wrong but the Sony PVM can't take 480p. Never tested and I'm not even sure if it's possible to output 480p in RGB or even YPbPr.
almost every single one.Is there any linedoubler that can take component input and also output component?
again, most.or even RGB and output rgb?

The beauty part of the avermedia is that I don't need a computer to capture the game footage. I can take it to my gaming room press record and play it.blizzz wrote:You could just buy a SC-500N1 / PEXHDCAP card that can capture 240p RGB (and up to 720p HDMI etc). They are dirt cheap now. I've tried to find many alternative solutions but this seemed the best way to go. Having a computer in the room would just kill the game feeling.
Besides I already got the avermedia standalone box.

I don't know many upscalers but the XRGB Mini can't output component (or maybe it can with that D-Terminal thing). I'm not familiar with any other.Fudoh wrote:you would split the signal after the source.Correct if I'm wrong but the Sony PVM can't take 480p. What you suggest would using an RGB Y cable that can take one input and do a dual output? One goes to the PVM and another one to the upscaler that goes into the avermedia recorder?
I know you said there are many but I really don't know any upscaler that can do RGB to RGB output or even component to component output.
Could you give me a few options?

but you could have a look at my website and educate yourself a little.I don't know many upscalers but the XRGB Mini can't output component (or maybe it can with that D-Terminal thing). I'm not familiar with any other.
For 15khz RGB to 31khz component: for example every DVDO processor between the iScan HD and the VP50Pro. Doesn't your Avermedia have HDMI in as well ? Or do you have the older model without HDMI ?

I'm at your site as we speak and gathering every information I can but I'm not actually aiming at high end upscalers at the moment. I was hoping cheaper could do it.Fudoh wrote:but you could have a look at my website and educate yourself a little.I don't know many upscalers but the XRGB Mini can't output component (or maybe it can with that D-Terminal thing). My Avermedia is the first one with only component input. I'm about to get the one with HDMI it should arrive in a month or so - but I was hopping before facing myself with the 480i limitation that I could leave the hdmi one on my HD gaming systems room and have the component one on my retro gaming room.
But I should expect there's no cheap alternative here, right?
I mean $100 or less.
If everything else fails the cheapest way to go would be those chinese usb dongles that can take s-video input.

Really? Isn't that like super low for an HD? Or have the prices plummeted lately?Fudoh wrote:an iScan HD is $100 or less.I mean $100 or less.

The ones available on ebay are really expensive not even near $100 area.matrigs wrote:Really? Isn't that like super low for an HD? Or have the prices plummeted lately?Fudoh wrote:an iScan HD is $100 or less.I mean $100 or less.
A friend of mine suggested using those old DVD recorders from Philips with faroudja chipset. I've found the Philips DVDR 985 here with broken drive. It has component input and 2 component output, one for 480i and one for 480p
So I guess this might do the trick. It will arrive in a few days and I'll let you guys know.

120 EUR are reasonable for a HD here in Europe. Much harder to pick one up over here compared to the US.

Re: Is there anything that can take 240p and upscale to 480i
Guys just wanted to bump this thread to say the DVDR worked
)
I got a broken drive Philips DVDR 985. Got it without remote, so I made hex files for my Galaxy S4 and there was a cable miss plugged that wasn't outputing 480p on the progressive scan output.
Fixed everything and iiiiieiiiii!!
I've recorded flawlessly from my SNES. Of course that the RGB to YUV converter to DVDR to avermedia recorder produces a monumental lag.
So fudoh's idea was awesome, just duplicate the output. I have RGB to Sync Striker to PVM2950Q for awesome lag free RGB gameplay and I still can record everything
)))
Even my Atari 2600 going trough s-video to the DVDR can be recorded in 480p!!
Now everything works really well here!

I'll try to do that this week.Fudoh wrote:Gratulations, sounds good ! Maybe a Youtube sample clip to see the quality the Philips provides for 240p signals ?
But I can say out of the box it's really washed out. The Avermedia has a really really washed out capture, it's the same with the PS3 as to the SNES.
The Philips washed the picture too, so in the end it will need some video filters to bring the colors up and the brightness down.

Re: Is there anything that can take 240p and upscale to 480i
I've made a Toejam and Earl review and the image captured was really dark. So I've added some sony vega filters.
If you guys want to see it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq5BBXtc75U
I've added now the scart to jamma adapter made by Tim. Since my setup is really big I gave a shot to see if it could deliver a better image and it did.
I'll try to record something and add no filters this time for comparison.
