Turbografx-16 shmups
Turbografx-16 shmups
Which are the best shmups on the TG-16? Blazing Lazers? Super Star Soldier?
My top 10 HuCards and CD-Roms (alphabetical order):
Hu Card:
- Aldynes (Super Grafx only!)
- Coryoon
- Gradius
- Gunhed
- Kyuukyoku Tiger
- Magical Chase
- PC-Denjin
- Salamander
- Soldier Blade
- Super Star Soldier
CD-Rom:
- Gate of Thunder (Super CD-Rom)
- Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire (Arcade CD-Rom)
- Gradius II (Super CD-Rom)
- Nexzr/Nexzr Special (Super CD-Rom)
- R-Type Complete (Super CD-Rom)
- Spriggan (CD-Rom)
- Spriggan Mk. II (CD-Rom)
- Star Parodier (Super CD-Rom)
- Sylphia (Super CD-Rom)
- Winds (Lords) of Thunder (Super CD-Rom)
There's many other great games apart from these, such as the Rayxanbers, the Downloads, Kikikaikai (more of an Ikari Warriors type game), 1941 for Super Grafx (only port of this game so far, afaik).
PCE has some famous and good arcade ports, such as R-Type and Raiden, but you may want to consider other versions for some of these games. IMO R-Types and Raiden Project on PS1 give you more bang for your buck.
On the other hand, Cotton has a great original soundtrack, far better than that of the arcade and PS1 version.

The CD attachment has a small amount of RAM built in for game saves, but I'm not sure if LoT actually uses it or not.Pshooter wrote:I was reading about Lords of Thunder, and how you buy power ups and stuff. Can you save your gave in Lords of Thunder? Are you able to save your game in any Turbografx of Turbo CD games (since they aren't cartridges, and i don't think the CD uses a memory card?)
I had a TG-16 back in the day, and i dont remember being able to save your game in any of the games i had (Splatterhouse, Bonk, Devil's/Alien Crush)jpolz wrote:The CD attachment has a small amount of RAM built in for game saves, but I'm not sure if LoT actually uses it or not.Pshooter wrote:I was reading about Lords of Thunder, and how you buy power ups and stuff. LoT saves scores and that is all.
and image fight is not as hard as all that, well initially it is, but when you finally memorize all the enemy placements, and what weapons you need to make sure you don't die, or lose you average... its not that hard.
i should note i am utter shit at this game, but its still fun, mostly.

I have no sig whatsoever.
That thread title is a bit misleading with the advice being given.
I notice a lot of PCE HuCard stuff (and occasional SuperGrafx
) coming up in this thread. I have a TG16 (w/ that AV booster with save RAM) but no card slot mod and no interest in picking up a PCE. I know the CD games are region free, so no problem there. What're the shooters (and other good stuff) that actually showed up on Turbochip, then?
I know Raiden, Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier, Soldier Blade, R-Type...

Lords of Thunder is short enough that there's no need to save anything. In fact, if you don't buy continues, you'll just get a game over instantly when you die. Anyway, no shooters on the PCE save actual progress in a single playthrough.Pshooter wrote:I was reading about Lords of Thunder, and how you buy power ups and stuff. The CD system and Duo do have their own memory space (which will disappear after a short while if you don't play the system). If you need more space on a US system, the Turbo Booster Plus will do it but you have to turn the system on to recharge it as well. Battery-based memory accessories such as the Tennokoe Bank and Memory Base 128 are also available but only for JP systems.
Well, for good US chips, there's also Blazing Lazers and, if you can afford it, Magical Chase.nZero wrote: What're the shooters (and other good stuff) that actually showed up on Turbochip, then?
