Except all Pokémon seem quite capable of communication, nocioception and possibly pain. So yeah, despite loving the series I wouldn't dismiss the folks that find the simmilarities to cockfighting unappealing for not getting where it came from. boy, I used to be better at this english thingtrap15 wrote:It's actually based on the very Japanese hobby of bug-catching and fightingBareknuckleRoo wrote:At the very least it's better than Pokémon's concept of glorified cockfighting. Thanks.Ruldra wrote: Funny how you can do it so easily, I see it as a huge accomplishment. Well done.
It's a hack'n slash, so the lack of a throw is expected considering Capcom's King of Dragons and Knights of the Round lineage.BareknuckleRoo wrote: Even the lack of a throw feels... unusual for me. I'm so used to beat 'em ups where throwing is a key crowd control element that I find I have to resort to dash attacks to clear enemies. And then there's the parts of the game where it's just three waves of goblins in a row chucking rocks at you/gnolls firing arrows... boring.
There's too many of them used as filler in SoM, in my opinion. Occasionally, fine, but if all I have to do is sit and duck under multiple ones in a row, it kills the pacing for me. King of Dragons doesn't feel like you're lacking in anything - combat is simple, but you can swat away enemies so fast (especially with the Elf or Wizard!) that it's got a much brisker pace to it.The wave of enemies throwing/shooting stuff is featured in almost every Capcom game of the genre since Final Fight with the molotov guys...
There aren't really that many. Mostly they appear as support for melee enemies, you don't get several rows of them alone. Goblins will use ranged attacks if you are far from them, and again generally to support fellow goblins. And the pacing in SOM is very fast, unless you play as the Magic User perhaps due to his lower damage output outside of magic (though his extended combos can make up for that). If you want to kill stuff fast just go for the Dwarf or Fighter.BareknuckleRoo wrote:There's too many of them used as filler in SoM, in my opinion. Again, you don't need to focus on them if you don't want to. You can LBO your way to victory if you want, but the game is perfectly doable without that, and items can add a lot of depth in general. Did you watch the replays I posted?I'll probably try to get into SoM at some point, but currently I'm way more hooked on AvP and Battle Circuit. I'm much more fond of their pacing, the faster moveset, the lower reliance on consumable one-shot items, etc.

SoM doesn't have that? Everyone's color changes according to the surroundings' lighting.BareknuckleRoo wrote:What's up with the Elf's clothing changing colour based on the area you're in? Is that a ToD specific thing?
Yep, and i'm also a fan of PSOne era Square, although i had to resort to emulation, and later the PSP's PSOne Classics line, to play some of them, due to living in a European country.Astraea FGA Mk. Now that I look I see Soprano isI still wonder what other genres shmup players tend to like

Nice to know there are some Bemani fans around here.Softdrink 117 wrote:In light of this recent rhythm game binge, I got to thinking: everyone who plays it seems to love IIDX.
So, over the last couple weeks I picked up a JKOC and got Lunatic Rave 2 running on my PC. Tonight my PS2->USB adapter arrived, so I was finally able to give the game a proper try... Holy damn is this shit hard. It's stupidly addicting and absolutely brutal. I'm nowhere near used to keeping track of so much at once in a rhythm game (seven buttons and a turntable ahhhhh finger dyslexia). After a couple hours of play I can't even consistently pass 1's and 2's-- hell, I haven't even figured out what hand position feels right yet. But I'm enjoying it immensely.
That`s selling it a bit short, man. DP is a passable action game with an outstanding cast, excellent story and the best character animation ever. So!!! Says!!! Mr.Stewart!!!!Mischief Maker wrote:Deadly Premonition IS Twin Peaks converted into a passable action game.
