I've been coming across people talking about Tavia's bullet cancelling melee attack as the Gunbird 2 competition was going on last week.
How do you do it exactly and what is the best way to work it into one's Gunbird 2 strategy?
Thanks!

You just melee and any bullet around the attack area(some rectangle right in front of you, I think) vanishes, that's it.
I like to use it when enemies are about to release a dense attack, as bullets usually spawn really clumped together you can carve a convenient hole through it by meleeing and then pulling back. It's part of my strategy for 1-4 mechas and blimps (though I guess a more sane person would just charge attack from afar and dodge the patterns from a safe distance).

Tavia's melee has a very small window to cancel bullets, and it only seems to be capable of cancelling the small, pellet variety of bullets. I've tried, and it won't seem to cancel any of the larger ones, so it's not nearly as abuseable as you might think for safety. Tavia's still very good though, great shot damage and her bomb lets you get up close and melee enemies during it.

I believe it can cancel any kind of bullet. It can even destroy those orbs the elephant creates before they shoot their own bullets. (Not that there's really a reason to do that.) Notable uses, for me, include:
1-3/2-3 boss's second form defensive spiral attack. (The thing it uses if you stand on top of it.)
1-7/2-7 midboss.
Bullets from the blue and read heads in 1-6/2-6.
Various attacks used by the 1-6/2-6 boss.
Sometimes suicide bullets from large enemies.
It's not the kind of thing you can really use reflexively, as if it were a bomb. You need to plan it ahead of time.
