Just got the Ketsui Type-B 1-ALL. It was more a 'see if I can do it' thing than anything else, since I've already 1-ALLed mutliple times as Type-A. Trying to decide whether I should practice for the loop as Type-A, or move to another game. Too much good stuff... what do...

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
After switching around through different games more frequently than a diarrhetic switches pants, I finally found a game I think I'll stay with for a longer time:
Gigawing 2.
Don't know what exactly it is, but I just love the look and feel of this game. The bullets. The colors and the patterns. The reflect-mechanism. And all those shiny, shiny medals! I <3 volcannons!.
I just wish they'd stayed with the electro-themed music of part one. As cool as the orchestral soundscore is, it just doesn't get my blood as pumping as a good thumping electronic soundtrack.
Now let's see whether I will manage to have the selfdiscipline to go for the 1cc!

Ether Vapor Remaster.
With apologies to Rob: what this game takes from Metal Black is basically just mediocrity. It takes its bonus stages too.

I did some passes on a lot of games over the past couple of nights. I need some damn direction in what games I play at a given time. I keep on switching from game to game and have trouble just focusing on one

I was in a similar bind a while back.heisenbergman wrote:I did some passes on a lot of games over the past couple of nights. I need some damn direction in what games I play at a given time. I keep on switching from game to game and have trouble just focusing on one
Couldn't really progress much past the third level on all the games I was playing.
I found having one go to game every time I turned on the cab. Playing from a few save states. Then one run at it would help me progress my ability in one game. Then flit from game to game for the rest of my session. If at the end and usually I do, fancy another run at the go to game I had chose to progress/learn that month.
Kinda getting the best of both worlds.
Advancing slower than a strict one game type of guy, but I would say for me certainly prolonging the enjoyment of it all.
Currently my go to game is:
R-TYPE II
And my pick up and play are
Gigawing-(good for me to get some very action without rotating the monitor.)
Nemesis
Progear
And V.V.

I had the pleasure of giving it a whirl on the sharp x68000 at N.E.R.G. A few month back. Had a NEO-GEO stick hooked up (drool!)

I was rubbish! But loved every nostalgic second I was alive.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
played through the first loop of Gradius Gaiden using the PSP Collection's save functions to unlock stage select. I don't think I could 1cc it legitimately yet. Though it does disappoint me that there doesn't seem to be a save to unlock loop 8 somewhere for this version so I could skip to the hardest parts.
I should also go download a Gradius III save so that I can screw around with Extra Edit since you can't unlock it through play time on the PSP version. Though I'm so rusty at III now that I can't even get past the bubble hell.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
After about a 1 year hiatus from shooting games I really got into Gradius Gaiden now. I've had this game for about 10 years, and now I don't know why I never put more time into it, cuz it's fucking awesome. Anyway, I can make it to stage 9 pretty consistently now, but somehow fuck up at the moving walls a lot. 1CC seems in reach, only hurdle that's left is Big Ducker, who requires very accurate execution to use his semi-safespot.

Gaiden is without a doubt my favorite game in the series. I'm sorta-glad Gradius V is getting rereleased, but Gaiden seems to be quite obscure in comparison, despite already having a domestic release on Gradius Collection.CIT wrote:After about a 1 year hiatus from shooting games I really got into Gradius Gaiden now. Still bloody Caladrius. Scoring well (38th on the world leader boards), but cannot nail the 1CC. My score without a 1CC is above plenty of 1CC scores, so I have to get it to see how far I can push on the leader boards!
Akai Katana Shin and Judgement Silversword are begging for my attention though.

Yeah, great game! Nailed the 1CC yesterday. Definitely seems a lot more forgiving than others in the series. I also love the abundance of cool ideas such as the intergalactic junkyard with scrapped bosses from the previous games, the laser-bending crystals, and the all-consuming black hole.gs68 wrote:Gaiden is without a doubt my favorite game in the series. Gave Danmaku Unlimited 2 a spin. Would be a more fun game if it weren't locked at 57 FPS with delicious jittering.
(PC version of course, I don't play goddamned phone shmups.)
Not a big fan of the heavy metal soundtrack, but it's negligible compared to the framerate issue.

Yep - I loved Danmaku Unlimited 2 on the iPhone as well. I think it worked great with fantastic accuracy on iOS.
But I would love to play it on a bigger screen with a stick. In fact, I just saw DU2 is on Steam green light, so gave it the thumbs up.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I'm generally biased against playing shooting games on a mobile device, due to the fact that my finger tends to get in the way or runs out of room to move half the time. I end up having to roll my finger just to make some evasions.

Ikaruga [Arcade/MAME].
oh god why am I doing this to myself
4%. That is all. I got to the end of the first stage at least.
And there's like, 6 frames of input lag.
I blame this thread for making me do this. http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=47877

OT 4 LYFEBeen playing Crying myself, mostly. As with Gley Lancer, it feels very much like a consolised Irem shooter for the console without any Irem shooters. I don't really go for the supposed creepy theme (to me it just looks kinda garish, and moreover nature is gross by... nature - needs something more deviant to get under my skin). But the chassis is very solid indeed and the soundtrack's pulsating drone does create quite the mood.
