So, even today I marvel at how great Soul Calibur looks on a Dreamcast through a VGA adapter. I recently picked up a Tekken Tag Tournament PCB and was hoping to be able to output VGA directly, but I can't find any settings in the menu to change resolutions (for the HD15 connectors). I did some googling around and it sounds like there is no setting available for this.
How is it that the DC version and emulated versions of Soul Calibur support 640x480 (not upscaled, but actual resolution) but the original PCB does not?

System 12 resolution should be: 256x224 - 640x480 (it depends the game is suppose).

I think in pcb configuration menu is not possible change the resolution.

Well, System 12 hardware is PlayStation based, they obviously made some tweaks for the Dreamcast port.
Pretty sure System 12 will only do 15kHz, I think they added the HD15 connectors just to make it easier to connect to a dual- or tri-sync monitor.

I'm not quite sure how you arrived at the idea that a port and a PCB on completely different hardware would have the same or similar video capabilities...

The hi-res output is interlaced, MAME/Zinc don't emulate that so they just output 640x480 (or whatever it uses) but you're not getting 31kHz out of the board, although you can choose hi-res interlaced/lo-res progressive 15kHz if there's an interlace setting in the service menu for that game.
The Dreamcast port is a much better game, anyway.

I would never trust MAME or any related emulator to be a valid source of information on such things. I'd hardly consider them a valid source of information on pretty much anything at all.

It puts out 480i, though I believe it can be changed to 240P in the BIOS for whatever reason. MAME just deinterlaces it. It's going to put out 15khz no matter what.

Yes, 15khz only. System 12 is a slightly beefed up PS1, it wouldn't be able to handle Tekken in 31khz.

system12 is jvs compatible. As long as you provide it power through the 6 pin connector it'll enable 480p through the two vga ports. That's what I've done on my Fighting Layer System 12 board.
