PS2 and 360 shmups on an EDTV
So I wanted to play Daioujou and Espgaluda (PS2) on my EDTV and I'm wondering how it'll handle 240p. Does anybody know?
Also, I want to play some 360 shmups like Futari on this tv and am wondering how the games will run in 480p? Games like Raiden Fighters Aces say 480p on the back but Futari and Muchi Muchi Pork do not.
I'm just confused and some clarification would really help.

99% of EDTVs I've seen are CRTs that support 480p. I've never seen an EDTV that doesn't also support 480i/240p.

Depends on the TV. Try it and see.MrOldSchoolCool wrote:So I wanted to play Daioujou and Espgaluda (PS2) on my EDTV and I'm wondering how it'll handle 240p. Does anybody know?
I can't think of anything that doesn't run fine in 480p, just adjust the screen scaling to fit in the menu options. Also the janky menu system in MMP/PS and SDOJ might give you some trouble, some stuff gets drawn offscreen in non-widescreen lower resolutions.MrOldSchoolCool wrote:Also, I want to play some 360 shmups like Futari on this tv and am wondering how the games will run in 480p? So it looks good but there aren't any scanlines. Does this mean the 240p is being upconverted to 480i? I don't notice any dotcrawling or anything like that.

240 will be linedoubled to 480p
480i will be framedoubledto 480p
keep in mind that there is lag involved in this process

sorry, i mixed up some stuff it seems.
but i assume that tv is 100/120 Hz ? then it needs framedoubling.
EDIT: oh wait, i did NOT
just let the expert speak:

Since europe's 50Hz flicker more than 60Hz in NTSC countries in the mid 90s we got TVs that ran internally at 100Hz. (576i100).What is internal framedoubling?

I'm surprised with all the answers coming up here. Without knowing what kind of monitor this is, there's no way of knowing what's happening. Is it even a CRT ? Is it a TV or monitor ? Most post-SD TVs would accept HDTV (1080i) as well, so it's technically no longer an EDTV.

I still have no idea what this is supposed to be.matrigs wrote:sorry, i mixed up some stuff it seems.

There's no deinterlacing when going from 480i60 to 480i120. 480i60 to 480p60 is just "bob" deinterlacing and it probably makes games look nasty.

It's to reduce the flickering going on due to the low refresh rates. 60Hz in the US is kinda borderline, but 50Hz in Europe cause eyestrain.

This is the TV. Be sure to note the supported resolutions (480i, 480p). The specs are listed lower on the page.

Re: PS2 and 360 shmups on an EDTV
there you go. People above assumed it was a CRT.
With 480p being the native panel resolution, you'd should be fine with the 360 set to 640x480 or 480p. If you're using component instead of VGA, overscan might be a problem though.
240p (it it works at all) and 480i are both converted to 480p internally. At the cost of quality and the introduction of extra lag. Also LCDs don't show scanlines on 240p material.

How are all 480i signals converted to 480p if there are ps2 games that I can toggle the progressive scan mode(with an obvious visual difference)?Fudoh wrote:there you go. People above assumed it was a CRT.

Also, I did the Guitar Hero lag test (where it measures to some really specific number) and it was zero.
