That does look rather fetching.
Does the Fighting Edge come with those side LEDs?

I also want to upgrade my screen to a 27" one, but I worry a lot about the input lag and response time.

I had some difficulties finding suitable furniture for the ridiculously sized BVM to be able to have it in my living room, so I got this silly colourful thing at a thrift store. Anyway, my dedicated TATE SHMUP corner / guitar corner, where the magic happens.

My 14" of vert fun
With CoinOps5 and a hacked Qanbaq3-xs with a KADE inside. Nice and easy to hook this up to my GameCube for some IKARUGA action.. Just a shame I suck at it still after a year of trying to get better. But none the less KADE makes your favourite stick very versatile.
The stick has had no other mods, I do have a virtstick waiting to go to replace the sanwa

I was torn between the Q3 and Q4.
The wood body sold it. And I'm yet to use a Q4 but cant imagine it having the same solid feel.
I added a KADE so it's suitable for most consoles now. With the right USB adapter that is.
The buttons are a joy.
The stick feels it would be more suited to a fighter as aposed to a shmup.
I have a virt stick to go in once I work out how to hook it up

Has anyone any experience with using a Commodore 1702 in vertical? Does the chassis hold up well? I no longer use mine now that I upgraded to a PVM, but after seeing this thread I'm thinking about making a dedicated tate setup with it.

Not flashy, but does the job and does it well.

Maybe just my personal feeling but I'd say that at least the french-speaking community ranks third after japanese and english.Sarethums wrote:Are ahmups quite big in france? Ive seen many shmup videos on youtube from france.
Not large in numbers but with really active and enthusiastic people.
Put together the shmup+arcade+retrogaming crowd is rather strong in France.
And thanks to them we got some pretty VIP guests from Japan this summer !

I should really take a better pic of when it's tated, but I flipped it horizontally for the super spy and progear runs this weekend:

closet arcade (and PC) gamer
NEC XM29, supergun designed by Jasen's customs, and analogue arcade stick. I only have time to play about once a week, so the rest of the week it's nice to just close the doors and only have my PS3 or 360 out on display hooked up to my HDTV with everything else tucked away.

Re: Show your Tate setup thats not a cab or arcade machine
Finally got my Ikegami and B&O stuff set up.

Can't quite make it all out from that picture but there is a few systems on that unit. AV Famicom, Japanese Master System, MD & M-CD 2, Duo-R, SFC, FZ-10 3DO, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast and PS2. Plus just on the left hand side is a CMVS. Out of the picture is an Amiga 1200.

Sorry this shot is a bit blurry. Still need to tweak the geometry on the Ikegami. Just wanted to get it up and running last night.

And some scan line goodness to finish off.

The Ikegami was less than half the price of the last BVM I bid on so it was arguably a bit of a bargain. I'll try to get another one to replace the MX6000 eventually. I'm getting those screens calibrated in the New Year. If the B&O turns out ok I might just keep it.

Re: Show your Tate setup thats not a cab or arcade machine
I'm thinking of getting a pre-owned 4:3 Flatscreen LCD to be used exclusively for shmuping and found the HP L1955 19-inch monitor.
On this review of it, it even says that it can be rotated

Since it's an old monitor (I think released around a decade ago), the only input it has that I can use is via VGA cable, although that shouldn't be a problem.
Looks good? Anything else I should keep in mind?

yes, keep in mind that 19" monitors are 5:4, not 4:3. If you want 4:3, you need to go for 20" or 21". And it will most certainly rotate clockwise by default, while you want it to rotate counter-clockwise for anything videogame related (except MAME, where it doesn't matter), so you might have to do a little modding on the stand's connection.

Re: Show your Tate setup thats not a cab or arcade machine
^ Oh crap you're right it is 5:4
Y_Y
There isn't anything bigger that's available.
There are some 4:3 15" ones though, but they don't swivel.
Hm... What are my options here.
I have a widescreen TV, but I tried it in portrait orientation and the display had two big black sections above and below the game display. I sort of want the game to display exactly as big as the screen so there are no empty black areas, but if I force the aspect ratio of the game to 16:9, I think it might look ugly (haven't tried yet though).
If I go on and get the 5:4 monitor and display the 4:3 game on there, how will it look? I'd think there will be two thin black stripes on either side?

Re: Show your Tate setup thats not a cab or arcade machine
half the 5:4 monitors will stretch it to fullscreen, the other half shows bars on the sides. I quick checked the review, but it didn't give any information on that.I'd think there will be two thin black stripes on either side?
I can't imagine though that you can't find any vintage 20" displays. 20" LCDs starting around 2003 had 1600x1200 resolution. Pretty high-end back then, but neither expensive nor rare these days.
you can usually get used to the looks (especially if take a 16:10 display and not a 16:9 one), but you alter the game dynamics, because your ship will move faster up and down than it will move left and right. Just feels weird.but if I force the aspect ratio of the game to 16:9, I think it might look ugly (haven't tried yet though).

Re: Show your Tate setup thats not a cab or arcade machine
Well... if it doesn't stretch it to fullscreen, I imagine I could force the aspect ratio in MAME to 5:4 for it to display fullscreen. Although if I do that, my ship will move slightly faster left and right that it will up in down. Much less of a jarring difference though than if I force the resolution to 16:9.Fudoh wrote:half the 5:4 monitors will stretch it to fullscreen, the other half shows bars on the sides. I'd have to choose if the lesser evil would be having thin bars on the sides or changing the movement of the ship a bit.
I'm having a bit of trouble tbh. Around 95% of the monitors from retailers here are all widescreen already.Fudoh wrote:I can't imagine though that you can't find any vintage 20" displays. 20" LCDs starting around 2003 had 1600x1200 resolution. well, ok. If you want to spend only little money a 5:4 19" screen isn't bad. Don't worry about it.

I suppose. The one I found is already most ideal for my purposes if not for it being 5:4
Thanks.

I used a have a Samsung 204B. 20" @ 1600x1200. Got it pretty inexpensively and it had a swivel mount stand.
Horrid TN image though.
