A question about the Sharp X68000

Post by speedlolita »

The Sharp X68000 has always been a piece of hardware that has interested me.

I understand that there are different models that cater to different needs but I was curious as to what level of hardware I would need for the majority of titles? I believe I have a suitable monitor for one but then another issue arose.

Where exactly would one obtain such hardware?

In terms of saving money I was hoping to perhaps get a broken (PSU/capacitor issues) one to fix up and work into a project, but even getting a good condition working one I don't seem to be able to locate any - besides eBay at silly money.

So I assume people here have experience with them and any information would be appreciated regarding the hardware or indeed where to purchase one.

Thanks!

You generally need at least 2MB of RAM to run most games. Aside from that, any model works.

Get a Super or later as they have real SCSI. Which makes going Compact Flash very simple (about 85% of the library can be run straight off a CF card these days, no 20 year old floppies needed) Older models are SASI, and going CF on them is a pain in the ass. If you can afford it, 16mhz is a really nice feature, and some games flat out require it.
