PVM BNC Question

Post by hungar »

apologies if this has been covered else where. I just picked up 2xSONY PVM-20L2 for £90 off ebay (ay good?) and was just wondering the best way to connect scart rgb to the TV.

The pre built scart to bnc cables all seem very expensive is it just a case of attaching r/g/b + ground from scart to a bnc and then can I use composite as sync? I noticed in one of faginrs videos he used a Sync Strike to vga>bnc does it have to be a clean sync?

If you want to use a scart switcher to connect your consoles to, you can get a scart to rgb and c breakout adapter, then get 4 male rca/phono to male bnc cables like this:

Or if you have a male/or female (without a switcher) scart with solder buckets and a soldering iron, some solder bnc connecters, a headphone extension cable and some 75 ohm coaxial cable (tv aerial extension), you can make a scart to 4 bnc + 3.5mm audio breakout cable, the hardest part is connecting all the grounds, I used ribbon cable from a floppy disk cable.

Here are some pictures of an early male cable I made, I didn't solder the grounds or make an audio breakout but it still worked fine.

I now use a female scart connector, female 3.5mm audio out and all grounds connected.

Wow thank you 22point8 for that fantastic response. I have the same Scart switch as you so I will go the RBG breakout to phono>bnc.
Cheers!

I made a Female SCART -> BNC/RCA cable myself using a PlayStation composite cable.

Cut it in half and used the Red/White plugs for the audio lines and then used the 4 remaining strands for Sync, R, G and B. I connected the grounds in the cables to the 3 grounded pins in the SCART connector as well as to each other - so everything was ground together. Not sure if this is optimal in regards to sound but it worked just fine.
