Maegawa: Treasure talking with Nintendo about Revolution

Post by Super Laydock »

In the December issue of Nintendo Power there is an interview with Treasure's president and co-founder Masato Maegawa.
Nintendo Power: What are your thoughts on the next-generation systems, and what do you think of the challenges will be with the new hardware?

Maegawa: We are already working on a next-generation title. The specs are really high compared to previous systems. We are having a hard time deciding where we should stop [in terms of exploiting the hardware].
I guess it's nice to hear Treasure trying to exploit the next-gen platforms as much as possible. Can't wait to see what they're brewing up this time.
Nintendo Power: Have you had any discussions with Nintendo regarding the Revolution?

Maegawa: We have started to talk about the Revolution with Nintendo, but not in any great detail. Please wait a little longer.

I found this somewhat surprising news. But needless to say very good news for Nintendo fans or anyone else thinking about getting the Revolution console. Big question would of course be, would any Treasure Revolution game be a shmup and/or does it make use of the Rev's special controller and other features!?

Sin and Punishment 2

It would be perfect for the Revolution controller.

Surprising how? I'd have found it actually surprising if Treasure never mentioned the possibilities of the Revolution.

Surprising considering the general focus atm on the X360 and PS3.
Also when seeing and reading about the Rev's controller, a possible Treasure game wasn't exactly that the first thing that sprang to mind.

So it was kinda surprising to me. But ofcourse that could just be me. :)

Come on now; Treasure is synonymous with unique, niche, innovative gaming. I'd have expected Treasure to be the first developer to jump on board to explore the new possibilities that the Revolution will offer. If they just went with the flow...then I'd personally have much less respect for them.

I agree with you're reasoning.

That said I somehow still associated Treasure mostly with shmups and similar games. Revolution doesn't seem the most logical platform for those games to me. That's mostly the reason I was surprised, alongside the fact of hearing such a major (imho) developper showing interest in the Rev while most only focus on 360 and PS3.

But I agree that the value my assumptions, which led me to be surprised by this news, can be very debatable (or even plainly wrong). :)

Hadn't thought about that. Could be a killer app. for the Rev indeed, same as SaP is one of few "third party" reasons to own a N64.
