PS2 Component Cable trouble

Post by BitFaced »

Most of the PS2/GSM stuff is going fine so far, but I do notice something wrong with the image; I think it's analogue rubbish or the certain cable, it leaves a grid of grainy pixels over the image. Specifically you can notice it here:

Is it the cable I'm using or is it the whole Analouge thing? Should I use a HDMI Analouge-to-Digital converter or get a new cable?

That's a PS1 game right? If so, there's nothing wrong with your cable, those are dithering patterns meant to enhance color variation on SDTV's. Depending on the title, you can try to minimize the effect by playing with contrast and brightness.

Well it might also happen with PS2 games but I've got to make sure; just an amount of grid-y grainy stuff on the screen image.
There's not any way of removing or masking them, is there?

You can't get rid of them, it's not interference, it's part of the image! As stated above, you can play around with the settings on your TV...
You think PS1 titles have problems? Doesn't compare to what's going on Sega's Megadrive/Genesis. More info on dithering: http://www.chrismcovell.com/gotRGB/rgb_compare2.html

Oh... Now I get it. Does that also happen with the PS2 games?
Let's see if I can get this to work...
EDIT: I tried prefering the settings but it still occurs. Any specific levels to set for brightness and contrast?

Is English your third language? He just said you can't eliminate this "effect" you are seeing, because the "effect" is the actual artwork of your game. This happens in any game that draws images to the screen, honestly. You see it more with framebuffers that are very limited, low memory environments, small textures, even bitmapped, non-3D artwork, lots of video game artwork, even in modern systems, may dither small dots of alternating colours to achieve an effect or to fool your optical nerves into perceiving certain shades. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your tv nor your PS2 nor your PS2 game nor your cable. The game is meant to look like that. Older displays using lesser connections, while technically functioning on a "worse" level, would blend dithering like this together so it appeared to be a more cohesive piece of artwork--even if it did this by blurring. Now that you have a razor sharp display, you are seeing razor sharp, unblurred dithering. You could eliminate it if you like, by going to composite or dropping to a CRT of some kind, but I doubt that is what you are trying to achieve.

Not going to either of those things but hey, I'm just glad I don't have to replace the cable.
Thanks!
