I play platformers with my kids. Newer super Mario bros wii is the favorite at the moment. SNES super Mario world is a close second for me but my 4 year olds favorite.
We play minecraft PE on various android devices a bunch too. I'm not sure what genre it is.

I guess for me it's fighter jet simulators, first person shooters, car racing games, Metal Slug games, Sonic the Hedgehog games, and Super Smash Bros. games.

Fighting games are in my veins, so that

I voted RPG since it is my favorite, but I like so many genres, I really wanted to vote "all of the above". I even like arcade style sports games.

Platormers would be my first choice.

Vehicle-based action games (if that count as a genre), followed by run & gun platformers. I do tend to play a bit of everything (that's not a puzzle game), though.

Used to play mostly fighting games. Now I play mostly arcade games, and favor belt scrollers. I'll try to get an 1CC in every Capcom game in the genre. I also like action RPGs like The Witcher 2 and Dark Souls, third person shooters and strategy games.

Fighting games are my main genre actually. I play shmups to cool down from fighters, and other stuff to just relax. Like BIL I find a lot of survival horror games relaxing.

This. I voted for platformers (specifically the 2D variety). I never really got into the slower paced games, because I don't believe in relaxing.BIL wrote:Pretty much anything else with similarly concentrated pace and emphasis on honed performance.

Other arcade genres like platformers, puzzlers, fighters etc. (I'm completely shit at fighters though), and about once or twice a year I'll play through an RPG too (recently did Ys:The Ark Of Napishtim).

DID YOU KNOW:
There are actually two versions of The House of the Dead 2 name entry music; both can be found in the SOUND\BGM\ directory in the PC release of the game. The apparent original mix is called NAME.WAV; the slightly longer remix is called NAM_AR.WAV and is pretty awesome. The Typing of the Dead also has these files in the same place in its directory.

I'm assuming Magician BGM's filename is TIEM_2_RAEV_TH_FCK_OUT_MFCKRS.WAV

If anything, I favor STG outside of fighting games
I used to be addicted to racing games, though (arcade and sim alike). My best friend was one of the best Gran Turismo players in the world, and I had basically formed a dependency on Initial D in middle/high school.
I like most genres, I just don't have much time for games anymore.

Well, I play a variety of stuff, but one of my favourite genres is the roguelikes. DC:SS is AMAZING.

I like 'pick up and play' platformers.
I can't be bothered with long storylines, dull puzzles and gimmicks these days.

Voted Role Playing. Me and my brother got a massive collection of them now that he'd got a good job. So in very little time we went from pratically no games to needing another shelve to fit them all. Most are RPGs. Which is bad cause they take forever to playthrough for just a single playthrough, lol. How are we ever gonna catch up?!
Realistically I prefer the SRPG genre more cause more gameplay involvement, but ever since I played the highly replayable Shining Force series (SF3 Trilogy for Sega Saturn is like my fave game ever) that i just got into not long ago at all, it's very hard to enjoy any other SRPGs. >_< Like they all got serious flaws, balancing issues, bad flow/tempo, etc. etc. etc. Just a load of BS, really. Wish the SF series was more popular instead of the Tactics Ogre & Final Fantasy tactics. Cause we get clones of crap/games influenced by crap instead of Gold.
RPGs like Shining in the Darkness is a good RPG cause you have to use your head figuring out where you are, been, and where to go. Making the repetative RPG gameplay very tolerable. So no need to even worry being under EXP'ed cause by the time you figure out how to traverse a dungeon, you have more then enough EXP or just enough. So a perfect example of an RPG done right (course if you play via online map or making maps via griud paper, you're gonna ruin it all).
Other then that, wish more S/RPGs were balanced right and not filled with so much crap/way too overcomplicated that they become impossible to balance properly even in a million years. Same rule goes for every Shmup or any other videogame (I'm very into observing game design, balance for every videogame ever since I discovered the Shining series).
