PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
Well, this thing is pretty much guaranteed to reach the $2.2M stretch goal by the 30 day mark (if not in the next few days), which means PS3, 360, and Wii ports. I've heard some people say they weren't going to fund until they were certain of a console release. Do you guys think that is a common mindset and it will really blow up after that $2.2M mark? I'm hoping this happens and it gets to the PS4 & XBONE stretch goal, for maximum exposure. I really think this can become the "new megaman."

I'm just happy to see an established Japanese developer making good use of Kickstarter. These are projects I can get behind. I'm sure even a niche developer like Cave could scrape up a few extra pennies for a new arcade game with a subsequent console port if they chose to go that route.

Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
Well, consoles ahoy!
Pledges seem to be pretty steady even after that 2.2M mark, so we'll see how far this thing goes in these last couple weeks.
Thus far it looks like only humanoid robot masters, but I'm really hoping Inafune will try something different. Yes, people enjoyed previous Rockman games, but I think it would be nice to mix things up more than just a face-lift and a "transformation" gimmick.

I really hope one of those hidden stretch goals is physical release. This is shaping up to look really good, and I'm really appreciating the insight into the dev process.
Still not backing until I can see a physical release.

Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
Well, you won't be getting one. Ok, they ARE making a boxed edition... that doesn't have a CD or anything, just a download code. That's for tiers above $60 IIRC. I bitched about this to their Twitter but didn't get a reply: if you are making a boxed edition why don't you at least freaking put the OST in there instead of sending an empty box? Jeez.trap15 wrote:I really hope one of those hidden stretch goals is physical release. This is shaping up to look really good, and I'm really appreciating the insight into the dev process.

If you listen to their podcasts each week, it's a topic that comes up pretty much every time, that they are trying to figure out a way to do it. Not saying they will come through, but they are certainly not turning a deaf ear.Observer wrote:Well, you won't be getting one.

Good to know then! I truly got the impression they were dodging this... But I guess they might be swarmed in requests and questions.
I pledged for the shirt and additional goodies so hope that eventually comes with a proper boxed release.

Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
From what they've said, people "upgrading" their pledges (ex. I pledged $20 for the digital game. Now, I decide I want the box and manual, so I only want to pledge the difference between $20 and $60) would be difficult to deal with for one reason or another, so I think they said they would try and create a new tier for physical copy (no promises, of course). I'm sorta holding out until towards the end to see the full of what they can offer.Observer wrote:I pledged for the shirt and additional goodies so hope that eventually comes with a proper boxed release.
If they are smart about it, they will make another $20 tier for just the physical media (no box, manual, etc.), which won't be attached to any previous pledges.

And they came through: physical copies, ahoy. These are only available for the PC/Mac/Linux versions:
CD-ROM: $26 in the U.S., or $31 international, each
USB memory stick shaped like either an NES or Famicom cartridge: $36 in the U.S., or $41 international, each

Gahhh. The most bittersweet news. I don't want a PC version, and I don't want a digital version. I don't want to pick :I I feel like I'm being an entitled ass, but seriously :/undamned wrote:These are only available for the PC/Mac/Linux versions

Reached the stretch goal for the extra end stage and boss! A new stretch goal was added for Vita and 3DS, but it's high up there at 3,500,000.
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
I did find it a little amusing that they want to make the USB keys look like NES/FC carts when this game will be leaps and bounds ahead of the 8-bit erra, graphics/sound-wise. I would think maybe something more iconic from the game itself, perhaps a xel cube or a Mighty No.9's head.

I'm still not convinced that Capcom isn't going to have grounds to C&D the whole thing, but I'm in for the physical USB key version now.
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
I may not be able to imagine the number of physical objects hurled through their office windows if they did it at this point.
Also those stretch goals are popping like crazy. I didn't expect next-gen to be a reasonable goal like a week ago, but now it's way behind. I like it.

If watching the trailer of the game
makes you feel a certain way

you would give the game a try

backed. for the physical media i'm going with the linux version on a mini famicom cart shaped flash drive, i'm hoping i'll be able to put a preconfigured bare bones os on it (using archiso) that'll boot directly into the game
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
That's a ridiculously rad idea, I think I'll have to go for it now too. D:
edit: Or not, I'd have to triple my pledge to get one of those. Hopefully those things will be on sale separately after I've forgotten I already tossed my money at this.

Not sure about COJ, but COA knows that would be the final nail in their coffin after all the Megaman game cancellation drama of the past couple years. Plus, I'm not even sure they have the money for all the legal work that would be required to extract any winnings.Vexorg wrote:I'm still not convinced that Capcom isn't going to have grounds to C&D the whole thing

I pledged through the kickstarter page and couldn't find solid info on the CD-ROM or USB releases.
Are these rewards for separate pledges or will those of us who pledged like $120 for the softcover art/guide book be getting to pick one of the physical release formats?
edit... found it:
eh, would've been neat, but I can do without a NES-cart shaped UBS drive for $36These are called “add-ons” because they are items you can order individually, by “adding on” money to your existing Kickstarter pledge (these aren’t yet available on our PayPal page, but will be very soon!).
For our Kickstarter-based fans: Everyone at $20 and above already gets one digital download copy of whatever one version of Mighty No. 9 they would like—but if you want to add-on extra money for extra copies of the game, with this you can!
Here’s what we’re offering, along with prices for both (domestic and international):
An extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on disc (Steam version for PC, Mac, or Linux ONLY, your choice—you will choose via a survey later): Add $26 to your pledge ($31 for international backers)
An extra physical copy of Mighty No. 9 on a special USB memory stick shaped like either an NES or Famicom cartridge (Steam version for PC, Mac, or Linux ONLY, your choice—you will choose both the platform, and whether you want the NES design or the Famicom design via a survey later): Add $36 to your pledge ($41 for international backers)

Registered for the forum. Makes me feel lost. I don't even think new posts bump a thread to the top. And to compound the frustration of the forum itself, it appears that noone is moderating.
I think I'll let it sit for a month or so until the dev team figures out what a train wreck they have on their hands and cleans it up. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure my brain won't be able to handle dodging attention starved children and wonky forum software. I think the only thing it has going for it right now is that people are unable to put gigantic images in their signatures, ala neogeo.

Any skeptics out there?
I realise Inafune's spent plenty of time publicly damning Capcom and the game industry, and I respect him for his candidness - but people seem to have a huge amount of faith in the guy based on rhetoric alone. Which was the last project Inafune directed from the ground up with no interference? The project that convinces you he can work magic in 2013?
I mean with this much fuss I'm expecting the second coming of videogames, and not just a Mega Man clone with a 2.5D perspective.
It might turn out to be the best game ever, although lord knows Capcom have flogged MM so hard I'm sick to death of the formula, but I'm holstering the hype gun until I see the final product.
