Re: STG Weekly #36: Deathsmiles

Post by Aquas »

Well, I would like to include Deathsmiles Vanilla and MBL if possible. It's still up in the air. But it seems Tyjet's speciality is MBL.

Edit: We will include DS Vanilla, a high scoring Windia run and a MBL Windia Superplay as well.
Anyone want to help commentate on DS Vanilla, a Windia run?

I had no idea that Windia was a character of choice among high-scorers. Consider me surprised.

I usually play Windia when I know I'm going to trigger death mode (suicide bullets). Her familiar moves the way I want and hugs close, so I can blocking the death mode bullets easier.

Is this episode on Friday or Saturday?

Hey guys, been a bit lazy with arranging the show lately. But these are the games I want to do episodes on, if anyone is knowledgeable on these games, PLEASE PM ME! And if you have footage for the games, even better, and then we can schedule it up. If I could start a backlog of useable footage and people who want to comment, it'd be a lot easier to keep the episodes flowing :/

Game list: Ikaruga, P-47 Aces, Ibara, Mars Matrix, Caravan episode, Something Milestone, Some Doujin, Ketsui, Akai Katana, Sengoku Blade, Dimahoo, Thunder Force series

If there is a game that you noticed has been requested a lot and isn't in the list please remind me.

This being said, I'm gonna try to arrange Ikaruga this weekend. Depends on if the guy is available.
I'm also considering Ketsui this weekend since I'm knowledgeable but the same appeal for commentators applies. (I'll just PM the certain people... >_>)

ALSO: I'd like to do a Halloweeny shmup showcase similar to the Cute-em-up showcase for Halloweeny time. So far we have Caladrius, Deathsmiles IIX, X-Multiply as ideas. What are other gothic/horror shmups? DS IIX may be reserved for it's own episode, however.

Abadox on NES might be an option for the halloween showcase. Lots of creepy organic stuff since you're flying through an alien body and all. :P

I PM'd you back Aquas. Not sure if you got it. I was at work and I don't rock a smartphone like the cool kids these days unfortunately. Sorry if the response was a bit late.

Got it. And I sent a reply as well. Don't worry, I don't even have a cell phone. Aaaanyway:

Episode #37 will be Ikaruga! (Sunday 6th)

tokyobassist here has agreed to commentate this Sunday, if anyone else is interested please PM me. I may just PM people I see who are active members and are also on the scoreboard here as well. ('s what we do)

The week after will be Ibara, then maybe Thunderforce episode, then the Halloween showcase. Yay plans.

Who cares? Ikaruga is from 2001 and widely available since 2002. It was ported on several other major consoles.

Today's year is 2013.

Surprise! We're adding Radiant Silvergun to this episode because Ikaruga was a bit on the short side. For the Treasure fans. Also Softdrink has joined as a commentator with tokyobassist.

Current episode: #37: Ikaruga & Radiant Silvergun
Scheduled for Sunday, October 6th, 3pm CST.
Guest: tokyobassist, Softdrink

I care.

Ikaruga seems like a great game and I'm a big Steam user who just recently got into shmups, so this excites me.

Ikaruga for Gamecube is now sitting around $50 and the Dreamcast version was last sitting around $500+. It's also on XBLA for cheap but the point is, it's one of those limited release games in a sense so there are still plenty of people who haven't played it. The point of Ikaruga being put on Steam though opens the floodgates for other Treasure games.

Great games will always need re-releases on newer hardware.

Besides, there's tons of PC-only gamers who will have never heard of it.

Ikaruga is over-rated, and definitely a step back in comparison to Radiant Silvergun. It's good, but its reputation is somewhat unwarranted. RS is the bees knees however. Such a class action shooter game, with the right mix of strategy thrown in. Oh, and RS has amazing bosses too. And that level where you fly into a "deathstar" trench is all sorts of amazing. With the bosses swooping in, and the music pounding in the background.

RSG has a better aesthetic, Ikaruga is a better game. They're both shit as games though so who cares :V

Thanks for having me on again guys. Appreciate it. Hope I was able to provide some good commentary here and there. It was disappointing that I cut out in the beginning, but that issue seemed to stabilize toward the end.

Either way, can't wait for Ibara next week! :D
