3 lives, Normal difficulty. Try not to use the Raiden bootleg.

External autofire appears to be meaningful for Fire as well; feel free to try it. I'm willing to split over external autofire.

Finally got around to these. For a second there, I thought USAAF was going to be a lot easier. Oh no, the game starts telling you off as early as stage 2.

It would've been nice if the second loop weren't so overly brutal. Some of the patterns seem unavoidable without bombs in stock which is not a particularly intriguing design choice.

Video

Used the regular set (mustang). The MD port plays very similar to the arcade version, with the glaring exception of the final stage which is embarrassing in the arcade game. You can clearly tell the developers tried a desperate move to get the player off the machine at this point, there's no other explanation as to why you would throw so many recycled bosses in there. Unfortunately got impatient twice with the huge tanks during the run, I was probably a split-second away from the new position being a safespot, oh well. Not that it would've mattered in the long run, it's very unlikely I would've been able to get past 2-8.

When I found out about stage 8, I basically gave up. Gave the game a chance and all. Oh well.

edit: You even mentioned here that Fire removed the final stage, fuck me.

Added a PLAYER SIDE for USAAF, which I should have done anyway, but I was given a great excuse to recently:

I've tried several different methods in an attempt to control rank and it remains unclear to me as to what variables have the greatest (if any) influence.

Instantly suiciding twice in stage 1 and then collecting all extend icons.
Not collecting any extend icons.
Bombing frequently enough to never have a full bomb stock, avoiding the bomb bonuses but surviving long enough to receive power up bonuses and collecting the extends that follow.

So I didn't implement any of these "rank control" methods during the run for the score above. I tried holding onto a full bomb stock as far into the game as I could, and collected every extend icon earned (Obviously full bomb and max power up bonuses help in that department).

The only unusual thing during this run was that I foolishly died during the stage 2 boss fight (and I almost abandoned the run). Maybe that kept rank low enough to allow stage 4 to run so smoothly?
