Still plugging away at the sequel to my first game.
Although it's taking ages now I've got a little baby boy to deal with.

I know what you mean, I also have a baby (girl) now as well, and am still working on my first game on and off (mostly off) for the last year.
As for SKHR, I like the homage to DFK. I assume the explosions and bullet graphics are just placeholders, otherwise these need a lot of work. When enemy are hit, it looks like they turn black, when in most shmups the color is usually highlighted. Are powerups defined yet?

Well the bullets are place holders but was quite happy with the explosions, I think they look better in actual gameplay than on the video.
But I'll keep looking to improve.
OK, will try highlighting instead and show result in next vid.

Yeah, the explosions look good; but I agree they need more 'oomph.' Some sort of hit fx for when your bullets connect would also help, too. Anything that solidifies the impact of the player's actions is very welcome.
Overall, it looks great, though. Love the wild enemy designs.
