Geometry problem - would be very grateful for any help!

Post by andykara2003 »

Hi - I have a geometry problem on my Sony Trinitron that I can't seem to fix. I've tweaked a little in the service menu but nothing seems to work.

I've been very careful in the service menu & taken notes of the previous settings etc. but I'm not too experienced with this stuff.

Here's the service manual: http://mypdfmanuals.com/dref/570163 - Mine is the KV-25X5U

Here's the problem:

I've moved the grid slightly to highlight the problem.

As you can see, the picture is relatively straight across the bottom and left side.

The right side is bowed (I can't seem to correct this without bowing the other side)

The top slopes off quite a lot from left to right.

Is there any way to correct this or is the set destined for the tip? It would be a shame to dump it as the case is pretty mint & the TV aparently hasn't had much use.

Thanks...

There is no way of "fixing" that issue other than using magnets, or messing with the purity rings...... simply not worth it.

This is consumer set and consumer set's are prone to geometry issues. That issue you highlight is nothing imo...... it certainly won't detract from anything when playing games on it.

I think you're being way too anal about this and if you wish to be anal, you really have bought the wrong "type" of screen.

Thanks Fagin, I appreciate the advice & accept that I'm probably being too anal.

The thing is, I've watched a load of your youtube vids where you have shown CRT's & they always seem to have amazing geometry compared to mine!

For example, here's your Sony - exactly the same model as mine in 21 inch:

This is the geometry I would like on my TV.
