Harmful Park opens up a lot if you play for score. If you're just playing for a clear yeah, you'll probably only play five credits or so.

Thanks for that post! It was really informative. So the Saturn is slightly more direct but still requires you to specify a Z. Huh. OK, I'll stop derailing the thread nowtrap15 wrote: For Saturn you get 3 different modes of quads...

Humans, think about what you have done

I seem to recall Saturn also has a viewport setup stuff like you'd have in a normal full-fledged 3D system like OpenGL, but I might be incorrect on that. It's been a while since I looked at Saturn stuff.

Woah! Four of my all-time favorites were developed for PS1: Zanac X Zanac, Gradius Gaiden, R-Type Delta, and Einhänder. The first two of those are Japanese exclusives, and there's an argument to be made for the Japanese version of Einhänder due to some changes in game mechanics.Deca wrote:While this thread is up, what would you guys say are some of the MUST OWN Japanese psx titles? It's the only console I have no stgs on
Sonic Wings Special isn't bad either, though I prefer the arcade-exclusive Sonic Wings Limited.
As for ports, I like...
Double Shooting (a Simple 1500 bundle of RayStorm and RayCrisis)
G Darius (though you might want the arcade version on the PS2 collection)
Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (JP)
Raiden DX (JP)
Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus (JP)
Sexy Parodius (JP)
Sonic Wings Special (JP)
Xevious 3D/G+ (mainly for Xevious Arrangement)

The PS1 used to be my favorite shmup console. So much good stuff. I would say the exclusives are the best place to start (including Harful Park!), but some of the ports are amazing like R-Types, Dodonpachi, Toaplan Shooting...Deca wrote:While this thread is up, what would you guys say are some of the MUST OWN Japanese psx titles? I have also experienced this problem. So annoying. I dare say Zanac Neo is the best PSX exclusive shmup. I could be forgetting something else though.Obiwanshinobi wrote:Zanac Neo is laggy on the PS2 (all versions of 8-bit Zanac bundled with it as Zanac X Zanac work fine, though).

Fantastic sound on that one. I also love Galaga Arrangement on PS2.Mortificator wrote: Xevious 3D/G+ (mainly for Xevious Arrangement)

Sounds about right to me, although R-Type Delta is of note and Raiden II/DX ports are STILL the only proper ways to go for the majority of mankind.klausien wrote:I dare say Zanac Neo is the best PSX exclusive shmup.
