Pink sweets arrange mode is definitely loads of fun, once you get the hang if it.the more time you spend on it the more you learn, the better it gets! Even worked out most of it without having to read endless stratergy guides! I prefere it to vanilla sweets...

Gunhed/Blazing Lazers: a nice easy romp for the first six or so stages, but get hit at any point from the bubble stage onwards, and the game turns into a simulation of the act of forcibly removing one's own toenails using pliers.

Saidaioujou.

I suck at this game, I'll admit.
But I can't stand the input delay. I've never had any trouble with any of CAVE's other ports but I feel like there's just too much input delay in the SDOJ port than I can put up with.

Maybe I should just go back to Ketsui.

Pink Sweets....
I'm really trying, but after 60 games of perfect randomness I'm close to giving up. I've watched a lot of superplays, read everything I could on it and it still doesn't makes any sense, its boring the first five minutes, then all of a sudden it gets brutal, milking bosses is painfully annoying (remembering what type of bullet can be cancelled etc.) and there is no fun whatsoever in this game for me.
I love Yagawa's games overall design, but all of them are boring to death, stupid rank I could do without, hitboxes, oh god, where to start, and on top of it moving your ship/caracter/piglet feels so unnatural that how you guys plays this fucking game is beyond me.
Well I'm NEVER giving up so hopefully all that will change, but FUCK

Felt the same way as you when I first played PS, hell my thoughts on it are probably buried somewhere in this very thread. But then I played arrange mode. Arrange mode is everything vanilla isn't. Forget arcade mode and go bask in arrange's glory.

Don't have a 360 so I guess all thats left for me is to stick with it and feel the pain till the end.... Would Ibara be any easier as a Yagawa introduction ?

Not in any way shape or form. YGW difficulty is generally: Bakraid -> Garegga -> Batrider -> Ibara -> Pink Sweets

Well I think I already given all I have to both Battle game and Batrider, so I'll try to get Ibara running on MAME (for some reason PCSX 2 runs very poorly on my pc even though I have pretty good hardware), and see if I can find some enjoyment out of the two remaining games... I don't mind a challenge, as long as I'm having fun anyway.

Batrider Advanced (which i guess is the one you've used as an example) is harder than Ibara.
Especially if you're out to get all bosses. Definitely the biggest YGW challenge.
Would say that Ibara and Garegga are at about the same level of difficulty.
Stage 6 of Garegga is infamously tricky for both survival and keeping your medals.

I've been working on a Batrider Advanced minimum clear on and off for some time now and I don't think I'd call it harder than Garegga...mostly just because there's nothing in Batrider (aside from optional bosses) that compares to Black Heart mk2. Starting to work on BH2 was probably one of the most demoralizing things I've experienced in shooters.

I feel like Batrider isn't all that hard once you understand it, maybe it's just because of everything else I've been playing but it feels fairly tame to me most of the time. My deaths usually come from some weird thing I wasn't expecting (due to lack of exposure) happening in the last two stages or outright stupidity earlier on. Playing through to st6 on a single life is pretty much a nonevent.

Ibara is much harder.

I've made it to the st6 turret wall in Garegga . Ibara? It's rare that I see stage 3.

One nice thing about these tough games though is that, after playing them, more standard stuff seems a lot easier and less frustrating. Games I used to think of as being so hard now seem pretty tame after playing the above mentioned titles. It's a bit like playing with a heavy lead hockey stick, then switching back to a regular one.

That's just because Ibara has a higher initial difficulty and a steady increase as opposed to Gareggas jump in difficulty.
Garegga pretty much starts getting challenging with stage 6.
Everything prior is a breeze.

R-Type Final

I've unlocked all the ships but I have yet to actually 1cc the game on any route on at least normal. Sad isn't it?

Going to have to agree with Kai here. I've been playing Garegga on and off for over 4 years, still no 1CC or letter score. Ibara I beat twice the first week I owned it. It's true Garegga is a breeze up until stage 6, but from then on ohhh man! Ibara can be as simple as surviving the stages and using hadous on a few of the tricky bosses bosses (stage 3, 5, 6).

Garegga with the normal ships is a good bit harder than Garegga with (some of) the secret ships. Especially Miyamoto makes survival rather easy.

Not for me. Maybe my crappy virtua stick is getting the best of me. I will agree that Bakraid advanced is the easiest and that Pink Sweets is the most difficult, those probably aren't up for discussion.

The energy system in Go Beryllium is really annoying. Whose idea was it to give hypers to those who prove they don't need them? T_T

Aww, almost there. Keep it coming mate, this game is quite hard for a Touhou game.

Do you know how it feels when you bomb at the 1up section in stage 2-5 of Ketsui?

You don't. Pray to god that you never will.

I really dislike the way enemies in Ibara violate the Toaplan "enemies don't fire when you're close" rule. Bullet sealing is still there, but the permitted firing proximity feels like its been subtly changed from the previous Raizing games... you could get shot in the face a lot there too, but it seemed to happen more at higher rank. This feels like a feature of the game from the beginning.
