Grand Theft Shmups...

Post by Zweihander »

Well, I figured I may as well post it here, a fitting forum for the subject as any...

I typically tag along with my girlfriend to her college (will be starting my own college education soon, but anyway...), and since they have a gaming lounge, I typically take with me a binder of my PSX, PS2, and Dreamcast shmups. ....Last week I did something I don't typically do.

After hours of waiting for the usual crowd to finish playing Mortal Kombat Deception, WWF/WWE whatever, and Halo, I finally decided to just pack up and leave, since my girl was finished with her classes for the day.

...I left my binder sitting on an air-hockey table.

Anyway, no leads and no clues as to who has it... I notified the used-game stores in the area, and they said they'd call me if someone tried to pawn them in (glad to have friends who work at EB & Gamestop..) but nothing's turned up yet. For all I know, the games could be in a landfill at this very moment.

Lost were the following:

PSX:
Asteroids
Centipede
Einhander
G-Darius
Gekioh: Shooting King
Metal Slug X
N2O
Nanotek Warrior
Philosoma
R-Types
R-Type Delta
RayStorm
Shooter: Space Shot
Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein
Sol Divide
Space Invaders
Strikers 1945
Thunder Force V: Perfect System
Viewpoint

PS2:
Castle Shikigami 2
Contra: Shattered Soldier
Gradius III & IV
Gradius V
Mobile Light Force 2
R-Type Final
Silpheed: The Lost Planet

Dreamcast:
Armada
Giga Wing
Mars Matrix

Xbox:
Panzer Dragoon Orta

Also:
Guilty Gear X
Bust-a-move '99
Bomberman: Party Edition
Bushido Blade
Darkstalkers 3

Anyway...... Sorry for the rant, I wouldn't be surprised if this gets moved to Off-Topic... But yeah, I feel like a complete moron for letting those games leave my sight, and in effect, my life.

There is still the chance that one of my few friends at her college could have found it, and, knowing it was mine, saved it for the next time i'd see them. But the situation is doubtful, and the odds are slim I'd be so lucky.

But, in the end, they were only things, and things can be replaced. (it's just gonna take for-fucking-ever...)

I'm just thankful to the lord almighty that I didn't carry around my Japanese imports... Rez (jp), Mushi, Galuda, and Ikaruga don't leave my appartment. EVER. Plus, I have a spare, completely-mint copy of Einhander (with case and all), so no loss there... *laughs*

So...

Shmups denizens, do any of you know the pain that is Grand Theft Shmups?

That is all.

Does the school have a lost-and-found department? If you haven't mentioned this to them, methinks you should. In any event, hope you get your stuff back: as for "Grand Theft Shmups," in all honesty, around here, you probably couldn't pay most people to take these types of games from you, heh heh.

Man, that really sucks. Sorry to hear. Some truly great titles in there. :( Usually when I go anywhere, I take backups with me, and leave originals home, but not everyone has a modified system. Sometimes I have to take a whole system with me. I'm anal about scratches (on originals), so this works for me.

Yeah, my girlfriend was nice enough to notify the campus police, lost-and-found, and any of my friends there that she knows; nothing yet, though. She's been very supportive through this whole mess...

Heh... If i could afford to own a backup copy of all those games, trust me, I would. ^^; As for the great titles... yeah. R-Types, R-Type Delta, RayStorm, G-Darius, Gradius 3 & 4, Gradius 5, Metal Slug X, Mars Matrix... all gone.

Now, mind you, some games (like Asteroids, Space Shot, Sanvein, Philosoma) I only paid a few bucks for, and can live without... But yeah, I (literally) almost passed out upon realizing I'd left them there. x_x Good thing my Apt. has soft fluffy carpet... *laughs*

When my roommate lost her GBA SP and one game she cried for 3 days.

You're a strong man to not have killed yourself after losing those games.

I know exactly how that feels man.

My entire dvd collection was stolen. Probable 200+ discs in all. I'm trying to start collecting them again but it really sucked.

If the binder never turns up, I have copies of Metal Slug X and Strikers 1945 pt. 2 you can have.

Maybe your terrible loss will give rise to a new shmupper. Wait, I take that back. A true shmupper wouldn't steal, I should hope.

I really couldn't stand to be without a copy of Shiki II, myself. I have an extra copy which you can borrow as needed.

AFXisatwin-- Terribly sorry to hear of your loss... Hell, my loss is precisely shit compared to that. x_x Good luck, my friend... and I'll keep you in mind when the time comes to piece my collection back together, considering Metal Slug X is harder to find than 1CCing the damn game...

Andi-- Sorry to hear... tell her Zweihander feels her pain. ^^;; out of curiousity, what game was it? o.o;;

randomness-- I actually have another copy of Panzer Dragoon Orta (found it used, for $8 ), but I got it as a belated B-day present for a friend who just got an Xbox, and I'm still giving it to him; odds are, he'd have more time to play it than I would, considering I don't actually own an Xbox. ^^;

As for Shiki 2, it's on my list of games to re-acquire-- which shouldn't be too hard, considering the $10 pricetag. Still, R-Type Delta & R-Types are first on my list...

One guy was selling Metal Slug X US version brand new for $40 in a used game store. I play it, loading times, the blood was white (can't change the blood color), I just said "No thanks." :(

Came home one day to find that all my systems and games where missing, along with a bunch of my clothes, my entire album collection, and all of my dvd's.

Took a couple years of straight buying shit to make me feel better about that.

Argh this is terrible, looks like a long time of collecting gone within a short span. Here's hoping someone has a heart and re-unites you with your games man.

Well, to the average game player..."those games all suck"! Maybe you will find them at a lost and found like someone else suggested? Check pawn shops and those game stores often.

I forgot a bag with my GBA and 20+ games on the bus one time (no, I don't usually carry around that many games, only on this occasion). Really made me want to cry. Called the bus company and even the bus driver, but nobody had seen them. Left my phone number just in case and, like my life had suddenly turned into a very good dream, a couple of days later they called me and told me they found the bag. A miracle really. So there is still hope for you, Zweihander, as my story clearly proves God can be a nice guy too once in a while!

Reading your list again...whoever found that binder hit the perverbial gaming jackpot!!!!

*Ahh, someone left their school work/folder laying here...let me open it up to see whats inside. Holy Shiii...!!!!!
OMG! I'm not saying a word! Just act natural.*

I could see the above happening as well.
All in all, I hope you get your stuff back, but I seriously doubt that will be the case. If you found a folder like that, would you return it/report it to lost and found?

Sure would. But I'd probably copy everything first.

Seconded. *laughs* I wouldn't be able to keep it... I'd be too guilt-stricken. Then again, honest people (like the Shmups genre itself) are a dying breed... ~_~

I know it is incredibly tough dealing with this--especially knowing what to do next (do you repurchase the games?) As I said off-topic, I just had my car broken into with $1000 to $2000 worth of music equipment stolen. It was really tough for me, but I eventually bounced back. But I don't think the hatred for thieves is ever going to go away. The people who steal this stuff rarely have any appreciation for what they stole, but will sell it for pennies to buy drugs with. What a freakin' waste!

Yeah.. damn... really sorry to hear... Son of a bitch probably sold your stuff for crack. Let's just hope he OD'd on it. :)

As for my loss... it's in God's hands now, I can only assume a thief like that will burn in Hell someday. (and have plenty of bad karma along the road of life, as well.)

Shmups people... sorry if my post sounded whiny, it's nothing compared to losing thousands of dollars worth of belongings. x_x But, you definitely gave me some (much-needed) group therapy, which I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else.

To anyone else I told about this, they were "just" video games... it takes a shmupper to realize those games were really something special, and I thank you... Here's hoping for a brighter future, of shmups (and electronic shit in general) with tracking deviced embedded in them!

hah-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH....! XD Thanks, dude. You gave me a much-needed laugh. On a more serious note: IF indeed this does show up, requesting the IP address of the seller, so I can trace his ass. But, odds are said thief isn't even a Shmups member, or a shmupper at all, unless you count drive-by shootings... And probably sold said games for crack.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this whole thread?
Did you leave the folder on an air hockey table and forget about it, or was it stolen while you weren't looking?

I would hardly call someone who found something a thief!!!
Hell, a good friend of mine found a Nintendo in a parking lot. Somebody "forgot" to put it in their car, or it fell out or something.

Anyway, I hope you can at least recover/re-buy for favorite titles.

You stole my thunder, usually any time someone starts a thread about something being stolen on any forum I start a thread in the selling section offering up the same items. :P

Yeah, good point, Twitch. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the 'finders keepers' saying, but it really is a different category we're talking about if the item is just left behind.
