Genocide 1 = FM Towns
Genocide 2 = X68000.

Towns G1 is a full-on remake, much better then the original X68K mess. G2 on Towns is mostly a straight port, however a few levels lost some parallax from the original X68K version. Other main difference is music. X68K supports FM or FM+MT-32 MIDI mix. While Towns supports FM or SC-55 MIDI mix. If you have no interest in MIDI, X68K has the better FM chip (Towns uses same chip as Megadrive).

didn't think g1 could be salvaged. is g1 square based on g2 or something? and g1 square has the original fm, right? should probably just have a look...

md/towns may have a slightly inferior version of the 2608 but it's still really powerful. fucking dinosaur towns god damn jesus christ, the legend of heroes md, etc.

why isn't dinosaur fm towns the original version again

Towns G1 runs off the G2 engine. I actually enjoy it more then G2. Also I forgot, but in Towns G2 Betty is unlimited, while in X68K original Betty has limited uses, making Towns G2 a lot easier to beat.

As for the FM it's hard to do a direct comparison, the X68K has the 2151 and is the better chip, but the Towns PCs seem to have a better audio out-put design, giving it very clear output. Honestly Genocide's soundtrack is a bit generic imo, it's fine for gameplay, but nothing outstanding at all. Personally I prefer the SC-55 Towns MIDI for G1, but the X68K's MT-32+FM mix for G2.

As for Falcom, I'm not really into their games, but afaik, all were created for NEC computers then ported to other machines.

FM Towns isn't just 2612, it's also got a fairly high-quality PCM chip with 8 channels of output. For comparison, the X68000 has a pretty dinky OKI ADPCM chip with a single channel of output (requires software mixing for more).
