That's just so typical of....

Post by Ord »

Ok, so what traits do you think are typical from the various shooter developers that were/are out there. for example :-
Raizing
Pyrotechnic plumes of flame from downed fighters
Stage names displayed
stage music displayed
Ranking
Debris etc etc
I just wondered what the other developers (Compile, Toaplan, Treasure, Cave, G-Rev etc) typical traits were.
Ikaruga review now up in PLASMA BLOSSOM

Seibu Kaihatsu

- when your ships die the shrapnel can hit power-up containers
- first time you fire up one of thier machines you have to wait ten minutes while listening to either techno or grocery shopping music. :) i think...
- they rock
- Kate Beckinsale does me everytime i 1cc Viper Phase 1

Ok so my list sucks. It also might be inaccurate.

Psikyo. What can you say except that the bullets never change. It's like a car, the 2003 and 2004 model are almost identical except for a few things here and there. Very seldom do they do a design change that is very different than the previous design. First there was medal chaining. Then came technical bonuses. Those are really the only new things they actually put in there games except the sprite overhaul. Don't get me wrong; Psikyo is probably my favorite shooter company with Cave in close second. I guess that's what makes them Psikyo. If it's not broke, don't fix it, right?

We've actually done something like this already. http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1454
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

That's so typical of Treasure; to give a game a boss-fight montage every two levels.
Approach your target and attack! Your mission starts now! ARE YOU READY!?

ZUN: It's gotta have Reimu in it. And Marisa. And they have to fight cute girls usually wearing frilly clothing. If it's a vs. shmup, gameplay has to be borrowed from Twinkle Star Sprites and credited accordingly. Oh, and a trumpet pitch that can only be achived through a synthesizer.
