This is weird.
I was testing different ways to use my screen to see if some of the things you guys told me would help without much succes, and before turning my pc off I decided to play for a while like there was no problem at all. I felt really dizzy and nauseous, especially in the next 10-20 minutes after I stopped, so I went to bed.
The next day I did some more testing, then tried a few Ketsui games, again, just 30 cm from my screen, dead center because I'm a bit masochistic and I really wanted to play this way for a while, and it was ok. Felt a bit bad right after, but it was still a lot better.
Then a friend of mine went to play some STGs so just for show I decided to set my screen in TATE mode and began playing, and he complained about the same symptoms I had before, exept it was fine for me. When he left I tried again, and I've beeing playing this way for two days, looks like I somehow got used to it. I do feel like throwing up from time to time but other than that its cool. No idea what happened these four days.
If I think about it it doesn't seems possible for me to "get used" to something like that, but I dont see any other explications...

Stop struggling so much and just get a CRT monitor, you can get a used one for cheap since no one wants them anymore.
You can stand on your head, turn the display 45 degree to offside center and still not hurt your eyes.

Yeah, you can get some pretty decent CRTs for like $20. I've got a great CRT monitor for my computer that's fairly decently sized and I think I paid $10 for it at a garage sale.

Same here. My friend just gave me an old 15' CRT he had lying in his attic.

They're getting harder to find now, though. The Salvation Army won't take them, and I'm pretty sure Goodwill just recycles them, they only have flat panels on their floor now.

Very sad to think someone could donate a Sony FW-900 and it would get promptly destroyed. Glad I have one 21" Diamondtron and two nice 19" monitors, a Trinitron and a Syncmaster. I don't imagine I'll find any more.

21" Diamondtron
already extremely hard to find these days. Surprisingly Sony FW-900s are rather easy to find over here in comparison.

I have a 21" Diamondtron that's not long for this world. Wife really doesn't seem to like it, and I've not used it in years.

List it up in the Trading Station. Although these things are being recycled fairly well (in comparison to most trash) it doesn't make sense just to bin it if it's working.

I still have some old Macintosh monitors matching their legacy computers - unfortunately my last attempt to get a 19" Sony trinitron with some odd problems working didn't meet with success, so I had to abandon it, and my 21" Sony (rebranded as a Compaq P110) tripped the breakers here and is long gone. Shame because it would've been perfect for this stuff (aside from tripping the breaker that is). At least I've got a 17" NEC FE series but that's a bit on the small side IMO.

It is funny to think about. I have a 17" Sony that I paid over $1000 for.

I think my mom is still using a 19" Sony that just looks amazing.

Is there a way to switch which region a Kaneko SuperNova System cart runs in?

I'd love to have a nice CRT but I'm always moving my pc around so that wouldn't be very convenient (could still have one at my home though). Anyway, my last post was especially because now my eyes are fine, ain't that a bit weird ?
I will get another screen soon because I want two but I can play perfectly on this one, considering how painfull it was at the beggining I tought maybe I should ask around what you were thinking about it

Be careful, you might end up causing permanent damage to your eyes. I would advice to get a eye check up.

Could someone recommend me any online custom printing service for arcade stick artwork?

My regular home printer is no good. And the printer at my workplace sucks...

I looked on the internet but couldn't find any serious answers.
Would Windows 7 allow me to have a dual screen setup, with one screen horizontal and the other vertical ? I'm guessing if you can have two monitors of different sizes then you obviously can adjust the resolution on each, but just to be sure...
Then will I be able to put a game (say MAME) full screen on the TATE display and keep my desktop on the other without any issues ?
Never had such thing to play with so...

You definitely can do this in Windows 7 or Windows 8. One thing I'm not 100% sure on is how it affects input lag. With still having your desktop on another monitor you will have have the Aero desktop compositor running. You can turn that off in Windows 7 of course but it makes the desktop look kinda ugly.

For the possible purpose of testing for input lag, how hard would it be to connect one controller to two devices?

Would aero be the only thinc causing input lag ? Because I can turn it off without problem, I don't care about aesthetics. And are you talking about input lag on both screens or just the second one ?
BuckoA51 wrote:For the possible purpose of testing for input lag, how hard would it be to connect one controller to two devices?
I'm guessing it shouldn't be too hard, if I didn't get a definitive answer by the time I decide to buy another screen I'll try that one

No definitely not, there are lots of things that can cause emulators to be more laggy than real hardware, that's just the nature of the beast I'm afraid.
And are you talking about input lag on both screens or just the second one ?
Both. Typically to avoid the added lag desktop composition causes you can go full screen, but if there's a monitor still running the desktop that might affect it, though not 100% sure.

Also just to be clear my comments about connecting a pad to two devices weren't related to your question, just something I've been musing

Okay, I don't know why, I thought thats what you meant :)

Also if you have a high end pc and good screen will that reduce the input lag caused by the dual screen setup ? Noticeably ? Or is it something that can't be influenced by that ?

edit.
BuckoA51 wrote:Also just to be clear my comments about connecting a pad to two devices weren't related to your question, just something I've been musing
Yeah, since I didn't know if both screens would be affected in different way by input lag I believed it would be a good think to check on, but if it doesn't... I'd still try it with two different games on each screen given the chance though. Just for fun

Having a good CPU and GPU never hurts, but depending on what emulator you are using there will come a point fairly quickly where adding more computing power will have no effect on how well your emulator runs, dual screen or not.

I have a dual screen set up, 19' yoko LCD, 15' tate CRT, never noticed any input lag. Also, dual core 1.8ghz CPU with 2GB ram, and a Nvidia GT520 1GB video card. Win7 aero on.

Regarding the Extron RGB 320
http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=rgb320

I can hook up sources with clean TTL-level sync directly to the RGB 320?
(I.e. RGBHV from a standard PC using a short HD15-5BNC cable...)

The 322/324/326/340 input buffers are only needed for long cable runs and remote controls?

My SCPH-1001 PSX has quite a bit of noise in its analog audio signal, anything I should try other than replacing it?

I'm guessing SPDIF modding it is complicated?

Is that a very likely problem? How would I check if that's the cause? I have no experience with electronics so I would need to get someone else to do it for me. Any capacitors in specific?
