Is PS1 Component better than RGB SCART?
I've heard you can modify a PS2 Component cable to have the PS1 do Component, but is it better than or can it support RGB? And what about RGB SCART to Component?

Re: Is PS1 Component better than RGB SCART?
I believe to get the best image quality, RGB for PS1 and component for PS2.
First and third party PS1/PS2 component cables also have RGBS connectivity. The composite sync comes from the composite (yellow), Y for Green, Pr for Red, and Pb for blue. I can confirm this through my PVM 1943 MD, but results may very with other TVs.
BTW, here's a schematic I taken from psx-scene which might help serve your purpose for converting RGBS signals to component.

I might be wrong, but I doubt it would be better in any way, unless you don't have a RGB-capable display device, in which case a direct component connection from the PS1 would be great (one less thing to chain). Other than that, to my understanding RGB to component is more of a color space conversion thing and you wouldn't benefit in any special way from it.BitFaced wrote:I've heard you can modify a PS2 Component cable to have the PS1 do Component, but is it better than or can it support RGB? But again, it might be practical for some people.
Edit:
Getting RGBS on the other hand might be a good thing.

So, PS1 Component wouldn't be better than RGB SCART, even if I found a way to do it.

It's always the best idea use the most native signal available - and that's RGB on both the PS1 and the PS2. Component on the PS2 has the advantage that it allows easy use of 480p, where you have to fight the RGBs (15khz) <> RGsB (31khz) situation on the PS2 when using RGB.

Well I am currently using PS2 Component, and skipped on using superior VGA because of all the problems that imposes.Fudoh wrote:It's always the best idea use the most native signal available - and that's RGB on both the PS1 and the PS2. Probably depends on your display or processor. If you don't require 480p output from the PS2, you're pretty good off with using RGBs.

Well it's a PAL PS2 and everything (50HZ VGA) so besides it being difficult anyway, I go with Component, which I would need as I am planning to use 480p and higher, including through GS Mode Selector.Fudoh wrote:Probably depends on your display or processor. RGB is always better than component.
